KAIROS, Inc is searching for an energetic, experienced, and highly motivated Systems Engineer, Journeyman, to join our team.

This position will support a variety of Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) programs and Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) located at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. Supports the development, acquisition, integration, sustainment, modernization, and lifecycle management of complex aviation, mission, survivability, and aircrew systems across multiple Department of Defense programs.

Will provide systems engineering expertise throughout the system lifecycle, supporting requirements development, technical evaluations, system integration, risk management, airworthiness coordination, sustainment planning, and acquisition activities. Assignments may involve aircraft systems, avionics, survivability equipment, aircrew systems, training systems, low observable technologies, and other advanced defense capabilities.

Primary Duties:
  • Apply systems engineering principles, processes, and methodologies throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Support research, development, integration, testing, acquisition, fielding, sustainment, and modernization activities.
  • Gather, analyze, document, track, and validate technical and performance requirements.
  • Assist in identifying, formulating, evaluating, and implementing solutions to engineering and programmatic challenges.
  • Support system design reviews, engineering investigations, technical assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Monitor system integration, functionality, airworthiness, and operational effectiveness.
  • Review and assess lifecycle management documentation to ensure supportability, maintainability, and long-term sustainment.
  • Identify, analyze, document, and support mitigation of technical, programmatic, schedule, and readiness risks.
  • Coordinate with government stakeholders, contractors, technical warrant holders, logistics teams, test organizations, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Assist with acquisition planning and compliance with DoD and NAVAIR engineering and program management processes.
  • Prepare technical reports, status updates, briefing materials, gap analyses, business case analyses, and engineering documentation.
  • Support integrated master planning, scheduling, milestone tracking, and program execution activities.
  • Analyze readiness, sustainment, technical performance, and other program data to support decision-making.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and implementation of engineering best practices.
  • Operate effectively within classified and multi-level security environments, as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience applying engineering principles to complex technical systems.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering processes, requirements management, risk management, system integration, verification and validation, and lifecycle support.
  • Familiarity with Department of Defense acquisition processes and lifecycle management practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Strong customer relations, analytics, and documentation skills
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, strong work ethic with a commitment to quality
  • Microsoft office suite proficiency, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to work within a challenging, fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to multi-task and meet competing, deliverable deadlines
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide clear status and/or communicate issues

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting NAVAIR, NAWCAD, Naval Aviation, or other DoD acquisition organizations.
  • Experience with aircraft, aviation systems, survivability systems, mission systems, aircrew systems, training systems, or sustainment programs.
  • Experience supporting classified or multi-level security environments.
  • Familiarity with airworthiness, cybersecurity, or flight clearance processes.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML, Cameo, or digital engineering tools.
  • Experience with technical data analysis, business case analysis, and decision-support methodologies.
  • Experience supporting project planning, scheduling, and program execution.
  • Advanced degree in Systems Engineering or a related technical discipline.

Education and Experience:
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in a technical or scientific field from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have at least three (3) years of recent and relevant experience.
Clearance:
This position is subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. This position requires an Active Secret Security Clearance.

Compensation:
While skills, education, and experience are key factors, they are not the sole determinants of salary. Other determining factors include but are not limited to location, contract budgets and requirements, and government labor category guidelines. The estimated salary range for this position is $130,000 to $140,000. KAIROS also provides a comprehensive benefits package as additional employee compensation.
