Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer & BI Developer to join our data platform team in a combo role evenly split between cloud data engineering and business intelligence development. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives at the intersection of cloud architecture, data pipeline development, AI integration, and BI reporting.
Roughly half of your time will be spent building and operating Azure Data Factory pipelines, Logic Apps, and Function Apps that move and transform data across the enterprise. The other half will be spent designing, building, and maintaining Power BI reports, dashboards, and data models that turn that data into decision-ready insight for the business.
You will also bring a strong working knowledge of AI and machine learning platforms, including Azure AI Services and Azure OpenAI, to help the organization move from data delivery toward intelligent, insight-driven automation. Experience with Microsoft Fabric is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Data Engineering (~50%) Azure Data Factory, Logic Apps & Function Apps
• Design and build end-to-end data pipelines and ingestion workflows using Azure Data Factory, ensuring scalability, observability, and data quality at every stage.
• Develop and maintain serverless automation and event-driven integrations using Azure Function Apps and Logic Apps, including orchestration flows.
• Publish data to SharePoint Lists from ADF pipelines, using SharePoint Online REST APIs and OAuth authentication flows.
• Own infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform, and drive CI/CD pipeline development and deployment automation through GitHub Actions and Harness.
• Integrate Azure AI Services and Azure OpenAI into data workflows — including document intelligence, embeddings, semantic search, and AI-assisted data enrichment.
• Architect/Manage analytical workloads within Azure Synapse Analytics, including Lakehouse patterns, and Spark-based transformations.
• Maintain continuity of existing pipelines and ongoing maintenance work.
BI Development (~50%) Power BI
• Design, build, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic data models that translate raw and curated data into actionable business insight.
• Develop and optimize DAX measures, calculated columns, and data model relationships to support self-service and executive-level reporting.
• Manage Power BI datasets, gateways, and refresh schedules, ensuring data in reports stays current and reliable.
• Partner with business stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and translate them into intuitive, well-governed dashboards.
• Apply row-level security and workspace governance best practices within the Power BI Service.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Around 10 years of combined experience across data engineering and BI development, with a strong focus on cloud-native solutions.
• Expert-level experience with Azure Data Factory, Logic Apps, and Function Apps — reflecting roughly half of the role's day-to-day work.
• Intermediate-level Power BI developer skills, including building and maintaining reports, dashboards, and data models — reflecting the other half of the role.
• Practical experience publishing data to SharePoint Lists from ADF pipelines, including familiarity with SharePoint Online REST APIs and OAuth authentication flows.
• Proven experience with infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, and CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions and Harness.
• Demonstrated experience integrating Azure AI Services or Azure OpenAI into data pipelines or platform workflows, including working with REST-based AI APIs, prompt engineering, embeddings, or AI-assisted data processing.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one data-oriented programming language, with Python preferred given its centrality to AI and ML integration work.
• Hands-on expertise with Azure Synapse Analytics.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric is a nice to have.
