RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce's client is seeking a remote hands-on Netezza Migration Engineer to support the migration and modernization of Netezza workloads onto Microsoft Azure. This role will assess existing environments, migrate large-scale datasets, convert SQL and database objects, validate data, and optimize performance in the Azure data platform.
Responsibilities:
* Assess existing Netezza environments, including schemas, tables, views, stored procedures, functions, data volumes, workloads, dependencies, and performance characteristics
* Develop migration plans for moving Netezza data warehouse workloads to Azure
* Analyze Netezza-specific architecture, including distribution keys, organize keys, zone maps, data skew, and workload patterns
* Convert Netezza SQL, DDL, views, stored procedures, and scripts into Azure-compatible SQL or modernized ELT patterns
* Design and execute data extraction, staging, loading, reconciliation, and validation processes
* Build or support migration pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, Databricks, or equivalent tooling
* Validate migrated data using row counts, checksums, hash totals, control totals, sampling, and business-rule validation
* Tune performance in the target Azure environment, including distribution strategy, partitioning, statistics, indexing, query optimization, and workload management
* Partner with architects, DBAs, data engineers, application teams, and client stakeholders to identify migration risks and remediation needs
* Support test cycles, production cutover, rollback planning, and post-migration stabilization
* Document migration approach, technical decisions, runbooks, data validation results, and operational handoff materials
REQUIREMENTS:
* Strong hands-on experience with IBM Netezza / Netezza Performance Server
* Strong knowledge of Netezza SQL, NZSQL, DDL, stored procedures, functions, views, and utilities
* Experience with large-scale data warehouse migration or modernization
* Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, or Azure Databricks
* Strong SQL development and SQL performance tuning skills
* Experience with bulk data movement, parallel loads, incremental loads, and data reconciliation
* Ability to identify and remediate SQL compatibility gaps between Netezza and Azure target platforms
* Strong understanding of data warehouse concepts, including fact/dimension models, partitioning, distribution, workload management, and query optimization
* Experience creating migration runbooks, validation plans, and cutover plans
* Strong communication skills and ability to work with client technical teams and business stakeholders
Preferred:
* Experience migrating Netezza to Azure Synapse Analytics
* Experience with T-SQL, Synapse dedicated SQL pools, serverless SQL, or Microsoft Fabric
* Experience with Python, PySpark, shell scripting, or automation frameworks
* Experience with legacy ETL tools such as IBM DataStage, Informatica, SSIS, Control-M, Autosys, or Unix shell scripts
* Experience with data governance, data lineage, security, PII/PHI, encryption, RBAC, and private networking in Azure
* Experience supporting production cutovers with limited downtime
* Experience in regulated enterprise environments such as financial services, healthcare, insurance, or telecommunications
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
