Position Title: IT Underwriting SME
Location: Farmington, CT or Piscataway, NJ (Even Remote should be fine)
Duration: 12 plus months contract with possible extension
Required Skills :
- Bachelor's in Information Technology, Computer Science, Insurance, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in property & casualty insurance underwriting, underwriting systems, or IT business analysis.
- Strong understanding of underwriting processes, rating systems, and P&C product lines.
- Proficiency with underwriting platforms, policy administration systems, and data tools (e.g., Guidewire, Duck Creek, SQL, Power BI).
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business terms.
Role Overview:
- The IT Underwriting SME acts as the bridge between underwriting operations and technology. They provide expert guidance on underwriting systems, tools, and data analytics, ensure underwriting technology solutions meet business needs, and help evaluate and manage technology-driven risks for property and casualty products.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Underwriting Systems and Process Support
- Serve as the subject matter expert for underwriting systems, tools, and platforms used by the P&C business unit.
- Partner with IT teams to define system requirements, user stories, and enhancements to improve underwriting efficiency.
- Lead testing, validation, and implementation of new underwriting applications or upgrades.
- Support automation and digitization initiatives, including workflow optimization, rating engines, and rules engines.
- Troubleshoot underwriting system issues and coordinate with IT for timely resolution.
2. Business Analysis and Requirements Gathering
- Translate underwriting business needs into technical specifications for IT developers and vendors.
- Participate in project planning, system design, and change management processes.
- Document and communicate business requirements, process flows, and data requirements.
3. Data, Reporting, and Analytics
- Collaborate with data teams to define underwriting data models, metrics, and dashboards.
- Support underwriting performance analysis through data-driven insights and business intelligence tools.
- Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across underwriting systems and reports.
4. Underwriting Risk and Technology Expertise
- Provide expert insight into the impact of technology on underwriting practices (e.g., cyber risk, IoT, telematics, AI/ML in risk assessment).
- Support the underwriting team in evaluating technology risks in insured organizations, especially for cyber, tech E&O, and emerging digital exposures.
- Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, reference materials, and best practices related to technology risk.
5. Stakeholder Collaboration
- Liaise between underwriting, actuarial, IT, operations, compliance, and product development teams.
- Communicate system changes, upgrades, and process improvements to underwriters and business users.
- Train and support underwriters in the effective use of underwriting systems and analytical tools.
6. Governance and Compliance
- Ensure underwriting systems comply with corporate policies, data privacy, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain documentation for audits and governance reviews.
- Participate in vendor evaluations, contract reviews, and third-party technology risk assessments.
7. Continuous Improvement and Innovation
- Identify and recommend emerging technologies that can enhance underwriting accuracy and efficiency.
- Monitor market trends, Insurtech developments, and digital underwriting best practices.
- Lead or contribute to special projects involving digital transformation, AI integration, or new product launches.
