Aptask Global Workforce (AGW) is seeking a Scientist II for an Onsite position with a Global Biotechnology Company located in Santa Clara, CA. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity. The successful candidate will be a member of the Assay Development team, focusing on the development of RUO and CE-IVD/IVD products for use on next-generation sequencing (NGS) systems. This role involves developing and implementing R&D strategies for NGS applications, including nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, sequencing, and data analysis within a design-controlled environment.
Responsibilities: - Plan and conduct hands-on laboratory experiments independently with high attention to detail
- Recommend innovative approaches and study plans based on experimental data or new scientific information
- Design and perform early development studies, such as optimizations, troubleshooting, and assay characterization
- Participate in the formulation of reagents, buffers, and testing materials following SOPs
- Operate automated liquid-handling and sequencing instrumentation
- Accurately record experimental methods, materials, and results in laboratory notebooks
- Analyze data using established tools and summarize findings
- Prepare technical summaries and contribute to verification documentation and reports
- Perform work in compliance with ISO 13485, QSR, and internal quality systems
- Maintain laboratory equipment and assist with calibration checks
- Manage reagent inventory and ensure proper storage
Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field
- Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience with a Bachelor's degree (less with advanced degrees)
- Strong laboratory proficiency and experience with molecular techniques and concepts
- Proficient manual pipetting skills
- Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques including PCR, qPCR, nucleic acid extraction, and library preparation
- Strong data analysis and documentation skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Desired skills: - A Master's or PhD degree is a plus
- Experience in assay design, optimization, and validation
- Knowledge of NGS based workflows including target enrichment, and library preparation
Pay range: up to $67.20 per hour
