Summary

Aptask Global Workforce (AGW) is seeking a Scientist II for an Onsite position with a Global Biotechnology Company located in Santa Clara, CA. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity.

The successful candidate will be a member of the Assay Development team, focusing on the development of RUO and CE-IVD/IVD products for use on next-generation sequencing (NGS) systems. This role involves developing and implementing R&D strategies for NGS applications, including nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, sequencing, and data analysis within a design-controlled environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and conduct hands-on laboratory experiments independently with high attention to detail
  • Recommend innovative approaches and study plans based on experimental data or new scientific information
  • Design and perform early development studies, such as optimizations, troubleshooting, and assay characterization
  • Participate in the formulation of reagents, buffers, and testing materials following SOPs
  • Operate automated liquid-handling and sequencing instrumentation
  • Accurately record experimental methods, materials, and results in laboratory notebooks
  • Analyze data using established tools and summarize findings
  • Prepare technical summaries and contribute to verification documentation and reports
  • Perform work in compliance with ISO 13485, QSR, and internal quality systems
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and assist with calibration checks
  • Manage reagent inventory and ensure proper storage

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience with a Bachelor's degree (less with advanced degrees)
  • Strong laboratory proficiency and experience with molecular techniques and concepts
  • Proficient manual pipetting skills
  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques including PCR, qPCR, nucleic acid extraction, and library preparation
  • Strong data analysis and documentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Desired skills:
  • A Master's or PhD degree is a plus
  • Experience in assay design, optimization, and validation
  • Knowledge of NGS based workflows including target enrichment, and library preparation

Pay range: up to $67.20 per hour
