Job Title: Data Governance Analyst / Data Steward P&C / Specialty Insurance Location: Remote Duration: 12+ Months
Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Data Governance Analyst / Data Steward to support and operationalize data governance practices across key P&C / Specialty insurance data domains including Policy, Claims, Underwriting, Customer, Broker, and Billing.
This role will be responsible for ensuring high data quality, standardized definitions, metadata management, and master data consistency across enterprise data platforms, including data lakes and analytics environments.
The ideal candidate will act as a bridge between business and data teams, ensuring that data is trusted, well-governed, and fit for underwriting, claims processing, regulatory reporting, and analytics use cases.

Key Responsibilities 1. Data Stewardship & Domain Ownership

• Act as a Data Steward for one or more P&C domains:
  • Policy Administration
  • Claims Management
  • Underwriting
  • Customer / Insured
  • Broker / Agent
• Define and maintain data definitions, standards, and business rules
• Ensure alignment of data across core systems and downstream platforms

2. Data Quality Management

• Define, monitor, and improve data quality KPIs:
  • Accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, uniqueness
• Perform data profiling and validation across policy and claims datasets
• Identify and resolve data quality issues impacting underwriting and claims decisions
• Collaborate with IT/data engineering teams to embed DQ checks in pipelines

3. Metadata Management & Data Catalog

• Maintain business glossary and data dictionary for P&C / Specialty data elements
• Document data lineage from source systems (e.g., policy admin, claims systems) to data lake/reporting layers
• Support implementation and adoption of data catalog tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Purview)
• Enable data discoverability and usability for business users

4. Master Data Management (MDM)

• Support governance of master data entities:
  • Customer / Insured
  • Broker / Agent
  • Policy / Risk objects
• Ensure consistent identifiers and golden record definitions
• Work with business teams to standardize hierarchies and reference data

5. Data Lake & Analytics Governance

• Ensure proper governance of data within data lake / lakehouse platforms
• Validate data ingestion from source systems into curated and consumption layers
• Enforce data classification, tagging, and access policies
• Support analytics and reporting teams with trusted datasets

6. Regulatory & Compliance Support

• Ensure data readiness for regulatory reporting and audits
• Support compliance with data privacy and protection regulations
• Maintain audit trails, lineage, and data controls

7. Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work closely with:
  • Underwriting teams
  • Claims operations
  • Actuarial and finance teams
  • Data engineering and analytics teams
• Facilitate data governance forums and stewardship meetings
• Provide guidance on data usage and interpretation

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor s degree in Business, Data Management, IT, or related field
• 5 10+ years of experience in:
  • Data Governance / Data Stewardship
  • Data Quality or Data Management roles
• Strong experience in P&C / Specialty Insurance domain

Domain Expertise (Must Have)

• Strong understanding of:
  • Policy lifecycle (quote bind issue renew)
  • Claims lifecycle (FNOL adjudication settlement)
  • Underwriting data elements and risk attributes
• Familiarity with systems such as:
  • Policy Administration Systems (Client)
  • Claims Management Systems
  • Billing Systems

Technical Skills

• Experience with:
  • Data Quality tools (Informatica, Talend, Great Expectations, etc.)
  • Data Catalog / Metadata tools (Collibra, Alation, Azure Purview)
  • SQL and data analysis
• Exposure to:
  • Data lakes (Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Snowflake)
  • ETL/ELT pipelines
