Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer (z/OS & z/VM) to support enterprise IBM Z infrastructure and mission-critical business applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing z/OS and z/VM environments while ensuring system availability, performance, security, and operational excellence.
This role requires strong expertise in IBM mainframe technologies, operating system administration, performance tuning, storage management, virtualization, and enterprise infrastructure support.
Key Responsibilities
z/OS Administration
- Design, install, configure, and maintain z/OS operating systems and related subsystems.
- Administer Unix System Services (USS) environments.
- Perform software installation, maintenance, and upgrades using SMP/E.
- Manage HCD and IODF hardware configurations.
- Perform capacity planning and system performance optimization.
- Install and support third-party ISV software products.
- Manage DASD, SMS policies, and system catalogs.
- Support RACF administration and enterprise security initiatives.
z/VM Administration
- Install, configure, and maintain z/VM CP and CMS.
- Administer RACF security for z/VM environments.
- Configure and manage GCS, RSCS, and VM/VTAM.
- Support Linux on IBM Z guest environments.
- Manage virtual machines, resource allocation, and virtualization environments.
General Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and performance bottlenecks.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
- Participate in change management and maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with application, network, storage, and security teams.
- Provide on-call production support when required.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of Mainframe Systems Programming experience.
- Strong expertise with IBM z/OS and z/VM.
- Experience with USS, SMP/E, RACF, CP, CMS, GCS, RSCS, and VM/VTAM.
- Strong knowledge of IBM Z hardware architecture.
- Experience supporting ISV software products.
- Proficiency with JCL and REXX.
- Experience analyzing SMF, RMF, and system performance data.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Parallel Sysplex.
- GDPS.
- Linux on IBM Z.
- Ansible, Zowe, or other mainframe automation tools.
- Experience in Financial Services, Healthcare, or Government environments.
