Job Description

We are seeking a motivated CAD Technician Intern to join our civil engineering team. This position gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting roadway, railway, site development, and other civil engineering projects. Working alongside engineers, designers, and project managers, the intern will help develop technical drawings, plans, and design deliverables using industry-leading design software.

This role is ideal for students pursuing an associate degree in drafting & design technology, civil engineering technology, or a related technical program who want to build a career in the civil engineering industry.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist engineers and design staff with the preparation and modification of civil engineering technical drawings and models.
  • Create, update, and maintain CAD files, 3D models, plan sheets, exhibits, and supporting documentation.
  • Support the development of roadway, railway, drainage, utility, and site design plans.
  • Utilize CAD software to produce accurate and organized project deliverables.
  • Perform drafting tasks based on sketches, markups, design calculations, and engineering standards.
  • Assist with file management, plan production, and quality control reviews.
  • Coordinate with project teams to ensure design documents are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Learn and apply company drafting standards, CAD procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in team meetings and gain exposure to engineering design processes and project development.

Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a two-year Drafting & Design Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, CAD Technology, or related technical program.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk and/or Bentley CAD software and computer-aided drafting principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and follow design standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred
  • Interest in pursuing a career within the civil engineering industry.
  • Experience with Bentley's MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.
  • Familiarity with Bentley design technology such as: OpenBridge Modeler, OpenRail Designer, ProjectWise, Bentley Infrastructure Cloud
  • Exposure to survey, roadway, railway, drainage, utility, or site design concepts.
  • Previous internship, coursework, or project experience involving architectural and civil engineering drafting.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods. Occasionally working in conditions that require extended periods of standing and/or walking.
  • Ability to occasionally attend project meetings, site visits, or field reviews as needed.
  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor situations with varying temperatures and weather conditions.

This is a non-exempt position. The hourly rate is $18 - $19 per hour.
