Position Overview
Senior Structural Design Engineer - Decatur, IL is seeking a seasoned Structural Engineer. This key role will reside within our Engineering Services group, primarily focused on projects related to facility Capex improvements, but will also be instrumental in providing engineering design expertise for other facility initiatives as needed. General Characteristics: A structural engineer that is fully competent in all conventional types of industrial design projects. Must be able to work independently and complete all aspects of structural design and detailing in a given project. Knowledge: The job requires a comprehensive knowledge of steel structures, concrete structures, and foundation design. A working knowledge of masonry and wood design would be a plus. Direction Received: Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
Typical Duties & Responsibilities
· Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope
· Performs work which involves conventional engineering practices but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements
· Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of related specialties; recommends changes in procedures
· Reviews progress with management
Responsibilities for Directions of Others
· May supervise a few engineers and/or technicians on specific assignments
Communication Skills
· Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills; must be familiar with report preparation
Education
· Bachelor of Science Degree: Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or Architectural with structural engineering emphasis
· Master Degree is equivalent to one-year of experience
Experience
· Generally requires 10+ years of related experience
Licensure
· The applicant should have a Professional Engineer’s license with a structural specialty to allow the practice of structural engineering
· Alternately, the applicant may have a Structural Engineering license issued from a state that requires a separate structural license to practice structural engineering, eg., Illinois
Travel
· Willingness to travel to site locations for project needs up to 25% of the time
