Microsoft's Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.
Azure PostgreSQL is a rapidly growing team inside Azure Data and Microsoft and we're looking for a Principle Software Engineering Manager who has experience in building world class team and are excited about building large scale managed database cloud services. If you love the engineering challenges of designing and delivering cutting-edge, cloud-scale distributed systems technologies, if you have experience with postgres, containters, docker and are passionate about developing fault tolerant, performant, self-managing, self-healing services hosting mission critical customer workloads and are operated at massive scale, this role is for you!

Responsibilities
As a Principal Software Engineer on the Azure PostgreSQL team you will work with all service aspects and will have opportunity to lead multiple initiatives in the service and be on point for designing massively scalable database hosting services using the latest technologies in compute and container hosting. You will be able to apply your critical thinking, problem solving, design, coding and debugging skills to help build these services. You will have the chance to influence the next generation of database hosting platform for Microsoft. You will get to work on solving some of the most difficult and complex problems in distributed systems space, with a highly motivated and passionate team. You will have the opportunity to develop deep relationships with open-source communities with high impact on Microsoft's data business.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Preferred demonstrated experience with operating in large scale cloud environments
Experience in Postgres will be a huge plus. - Collaborate with team members to plan, architect, implement and deliver new features and experiences.
- Oversees partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams for multiple solutions or product lines.
- Keeps informed of and communicates new standards to ensure that the product development and scaling is to customer requirements, applying best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations.
- Enables and fosters cross-team communications to drive cross-functional results and resolves conflicts between teams.
- Define team objectives and outcomes; Enable success across boundaries; Help the team adapt and learn.
- Provide technical and team leadership in efforts to collect, classify, and analyze complex data and analyses on a range of metrics (e.g., health of the system, where bugs might be occurring). Leads the refinement of products through data.
