We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Project Manager to join our construction team. This role will involve the oversight and technical management of construction project sites from bid preparation through job close-out documentation to the customer. The Assistant Project Manager will be trained in the duties of project management and will be shadowed and mentored by a full Project Manager. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical construction, budget management, subcontractor management, and contract negotiation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to delegate tasks to their team but will ultimately be responsible for the delivery of the project.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in overall project management, including contract awareness, pre-job meetings, manpower scheduling, budget management, and job costing tracking and forecasting.
  • Understand the scope of work and identify when a change order is required.
  • Participate in bid closings and review the budget with the estimator.
  • Conduct pre-job meetings and invite all project team members.
  • Develop and manage a project schedule and evaluate manpower needs.
  • Manage large purchase orders and subcontractors.
  • Ensure production quality and safety.
  • Handle project correspondence and communication.
  • Work with the Project Administrator and Estimator to create a positive cash flow payment schedule.
  • Assist in the preparation of change orders.
  • Negotiate early release of retention and ensure that retention is paid.
  • Attend estimators meetings and provide information for current reports.
  • Provide information and updates to the Marketing Department for pre-qualifications.

Qualifications:

  • A working knowledge of electrical construction at a level normally acquired through completion of a 5-year electrical apprentice program or a bachelor's degree in construction engineering management or related field.
  • 2-3 years' experience in a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager position.
  • Leadership experience in a field environment.
  • Construction management degree.
  • Experience in the construction industry.
  • Estimator/Project Supervisor experience.
  • Strong project management, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project and understanding of construction safety protocols.
