Senior Software Engineer (Java/J2EE) with 8+ years’ experience in OOP, J2EE, RESTful Web Services, Spring AOP, SQL, and unit testing, supporting SCOR BAU EI initiatives at Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

Job Description
Software Engineer, hereafter referred to as Candidate(s), who meet the general qualifications of Software Engineer 3, Applications/Software Development.
Level Description:
8 or more years of experience, relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, independently performs a variety of complicated tasks, may lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Responsibilities:
• Develop software solutions by studying information needs, systems flow, data usage, and work processes
• Investigate problem areas and prepare/implement system specifications
• Updates to SCOR Java include changes to business logic, user interface, reporting, and system data model
• Support application enhancements, defect corrections, and maintenance mode tasks
• Perform coding, testing, peer reviews, documentation, defect root cause analysis, troubleshooting
• Maintain code coverage, testing, and security policies
• Available for on-call support as needed
• Other duties as assigned
Candidate Skills and Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
• 8+ years – Object-Oriented Programming in Java
• 8+ years – Applications development on J2EE platform
• 8+ years – Writing SQL queries for relational databases
• 8+ years – RESTful Web Services on Spring
• 8+ years – Spring AOP (Transaction management & security)
• 8+ years – JUnit and unit test development
Preferred
• Angular UI Framework – 4+ years
• Crystal Reports – 4+ years
• Power BI – 4+ years
Terms of Service
• Services are expected to start 03/30/2026 and complete by 08/31/2026
• Total estimated hours per candidate shall not exceed 1200 hours
• Work hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, excluding Texas state holidays
• Primary work location: 701 W. 51st Street, Austin, TX 78751
• Onsite/Hybrid schedule with some hybrid work as determined by the hiring manager
• Local candidates only (Austin area)
