Project Duration: 12 months w/ possibility of extension or conversion

Rate: Negotiable Based on Experience

Role Overview

We are seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to lead the definition, design, and documentation of test environment capabilities and requirements. This role demands a systems thinker-someone who can see the big picture while understanding the intricate details of development, production, user operations, and embedded test practices.

You'll collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure robust, efficient, and affordable test solutions that support the full lifecycle of Raytheon's weapon systems. Your expertise will guide the development of test strategies, system architectures, and integration plans that meet rigorous technical and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and document test environment capabilities and requirements across engineering teams.
  • Apply systems engineering principles to test planning, integration, verification, and validation.
  • Lead the development of test setups, embedded test protocols, and transition strategies to production.
  • Collaborate with Department of Defense (DoD) customers and internal stakeholders to align technical solutions with mission needs.
  • Drive affordability improvements through built-in-test capabilities and lifecycle cost reduction.
  • Mentor and guide engineering teams through new project implementation, serving as a technical lead on Major Development Acquisition Programs (MDAPs).
  • Utilize modeling tools and system views (e.g., block diagrams, use cases, sequence diagrams) to communicate design intent.
  • Support capital investment planning and risk identification for test systems.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM and 4+ years of relevant engineering experience, or a Master's degree in STEM with 2+ years of experience.
  • Proven systems engineering experience in test requirements development, planning, and execution.
  • Familiarity with embedded functional test, integration, and verification/validation processes.
  • Experience with development, environmental, qualification, and production testing.
  • Proficiency in systems engineering tools and views (e.g., DOORS, block diagrams, flow diagrams).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage system requirements across the product lifecycle.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with full-scale Engineering Development Models (EDMs).
  • Knowledge of warfighter methodologies and hardware manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of software and hardware integration in test environments.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
