Technical Lead – .NET / SQL / Azure
Location: Mechanicsville, VA – Hybrid
Onsite: 1 day/week – Local candidates only
Contract: 12 months + possible extension

Job Summary
seeking a senior Technical Lead with strong SQL Server and .NET/C# expertise to support a tolling modernization program. The consultant will provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on with SQL engineering, .NET backend development, database modernization, Azure, ADF, API integration, and microservices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical design discussions for microservices, database modernization, and API integration.
- Perform hands-on SQL Server development, including T-SQL, stored procedures, views, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Support .NET/C# backend and API development and data-access patterns.
- Lead and mentor senior developers and provide technical direction.
- Work closely with PM/Scrum Master and technical SMEs.
- Design and develop Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines for migration and ETL.
- Support migration from monolithic databases toward microservice-aligned schemas.
- Conduct code and technical documentation reviews.
- Collaborate with .NET, SQL, BA, QA, DevOps, Cloud, and CAB teams.
- Ensure compliance with PCI, data retention, security, and audit requirements.
- Work within Agile/Scrum delivery processes.
Required Skills
- 10+ years overall IT experience.
- 7+ years SQL Server development.
- 5+ years .NET/C# backend development.
- 3–5 years Technical Lead experience.
- 3+ years modernization/migration projects.
- 3+ years Azure SQL / SQL Server on Azure IaaS VMs.
- 3+ years Azure Data Factory (ADF) and ETL.
- 3+ years Agile delivery/team collaboration.
- Strong experience with T-SQL, stored procedures, database optimization, indexing and performance tuning.
- Experience with REST APIs / backend services.
- Understanding of microservices architecture and database decomposition.
Preferred Skills
- State government or transportation experience.
- Tolling/transportation domain experience.
- Experience in regulated or audited environments.
- PCI/security compliance experience.
- Microservices modernization experience.
- Azure cloud experience.
Ideal Candidate
Senior .NET + SQL Technical Lead with strong hands-on SQL Server skills—not a purely managerial lead. The strongest candidates will have experience combining SQL modernization + .NET/C# + Azure/Azure SQL + ADF + migration + technical leadership.
