Description:
The Lead Licensed Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for leading the planning, design, coordination, and delivery of electrical building systems for a variety of commercial, retail, institutional, industrial, multifamily, and mixed-use projects. This role serves as a technical leader and project resource, providing engineering expertise, project oversight, quality assurance, and mentorship to engineering and design staff.
Working collaboratively with Project Managers, architects, engineers, clients, and consultants, the Lead Licensed Electrical Project Engineer ensures projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, and client expectations. This position exercises independent engineering judgment, may serve as Engineer of Record in multiple jurisdictions, and plays a key role in developing innovative and practical solutions for complex building electrical systems.
ResponsibilitiesTechnical Engineering Leadership
- Lead the design and engineering of electrical building systems, including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
- Perform and oversee engineering calculations, load analyses, equipment selection, coordination studies, and system evaluations.
- Develop practical and cost-effective engineering solutions that align with project objectives.
- Exercise independent engineering judgment with minimal supervision.
- Interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, regulations, and company design practices.
- Review, validate, and approve technical designs, specifications, reports, and construction documents.
- Serve as Engineer of Record when assigned.
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies, products, and best practices to improve project delivery and design efficiency.
Project Execution & Delivery
- Collaborate with Project Managers and project teams to establish project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Develop discipline-specific work plans and estimate engineering hours required to complete project assignments.
- Monitor project progress and proactively address technical, schedule, and coordination challenges.
- Coordinate with internal project teams and external consultants to ensure successful project execution.
- Participate in design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
- Oversee preparation of construction documents, specifications, calculations, and permit submissions.
- Support construction administration activities including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, punch walks, and field issue resolution.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
- Communicate owner revisions, design changes, and project updates to stakeholders throughout project execution.
- Ensure coordination between electrical systems and architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and civil disciplines.
Client & Business Relationships
- Serve as a primary client contact for electrical engineering-related matters.
- Present design concepts and engineering solutions to clients, owners, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive service and technical expertise.
- Support proposal development, project interviews, and business development initiatives as requested.
- Assist in representing client interests at public hearings, jurisdictional meetings, and project-related functions as needed.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Conduct quality control reviews of engineering calculations, designs, specifications, and drawings.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, company procedures, and client requirements.
- Obtain and perform peer reviews of engineering documents as required.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary reviews to ensure constructability, system compatibility, and design consistency.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and code updates impacting project delivery.
- Ensure adherence to Cuhaci & Peterson quality standards throughout all project phases.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Provide leadership, direction, and technical guidance to Engineers, EITs, and Designers.
- Assign project tasks and monitor team performance to ensure project objectives are achieved.
- Mentor and develop junior staff through coaching, training, and technical support.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Promote professional integrity and represent the best interests of both the client and the company.
- Support employee development through technical reviews, training opportunities, and ongoing performance feedback.

Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesTechnical
- Advanced knowledge of electrical building systems, including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM coordination workflows.
- Experience with electrical engineering analysis, modeling, and load calculation software.
- Strong understanding of sustainable and energy-efficient building system design.
- Expertise in equipment selection, system sizing, and construction document preparation.
- Working knowledge of construction administration processes.
- Thorough understanding of NEC, NFPA, Energy Codes, Accessibility Codes, and other applicable regulations.

Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum 8-10 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering design for building systems.
- Proven experience leading engineering projects and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
- Strong knowledge of power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, grounding, low-voltage, and related building systems.
- Thorough understanding of applicable electrical, building, energy, life safety, and accessibility codes.
- Experience serving as Engineer of Record preferred.
- Demonstrated client-facing and project leadership experience.
- Proficiency in Revit and BIM coordination workflows.
