Job Description:
The Assoc Engineer - Software Engineer will work as a member of a production support team and be responsible for monitoring and maintaining production systems and servers. He/she also supports the development, implementation and post-deployment support of enterprise applications. In this role, the position works with minimal input or supervision from the engineering manager. As a member of the team, the position is expected to participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) as well.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Monitor production systems using established observability tools and respond promptly to alerts, performance degradation, and service interruptions.
* Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for incidents and partner with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to implement long-term fixes.
* Troubleshoot application and infrastructure issues across multiple layers (application, database, network, middleware) using logs, dashboards, and diagnostic tools.
* Manage incident lifecycle, including triage, escalation, communication, resolution, and documentation in accordance with SLAs and operational procedures.
* Develop and maintain runbooks, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles to streamline future support activities and improve team self-sufficiency.
* Execute deployments, configuration updates, and maintenance activities in production and lower environments in collaboration with engineering and release management teams.
* Identify and drive operational improvements, including automation opportunities, monitoring enhancements, and reduction of manual support work.
* Ensure system reliability and availability by proactively addressing capacity concerns, recurring issues, and performance bottlenecks.
* Collaborate closely with product, QA, engineering, and infrastructure teams to validate fixes, reproduce issues, and ensure seamless release readiness.
* Provide on-call support as part of a scheduled rotation and maintain clear, timely communication with stakeholders during incidents and post-incident reviews.
Required Skills and Experience:
* Knowledge of Object Oriented (OO) Programming and principles.
* Knowledge of scripting languages like shell scripting and Python.
* Knowledge of most prevalent and trusted technical discussion boards, portals and knowledge-sharing internet sites for help with technical challenges.
* Knowledge of policies, standards, procedures, and techniques used for application development is required.
* Strong ability to think logically and structurally, and attention to detail is required.
* Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
* Strong Analytical skills and strong communication skills, both written (with emphasis on technical documentation) and verbal is required.
* Ability to work independently.
Education and Experience Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field and minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
