POSITION SUMMARY
The P-3 Pilot Instructor trains and evaluates pilots on P-3 Orion aircraft systems, normal and emergency procedures, flight operations, risk management, and simulator-based mission scenarios. This role delivers classroom and Operational Flight Simulator instruction aligned with CBP/AMO policy, safety expectations, and evaluation standards.
The P-3 Pilot Instructor is responsible for instructing and evaluating pilots’ knowledge of P-3 Orion aircraft systems and normal flight and emergency procedures in both classroom and aircraft simulator environments. The instructor shall lead classroom and flight instruction blocks focusing on such topics as: aircraft systems, procedures, and emergency scenarios. Key responsibilities include preparing and delivering training sessions, evaluating student performance, providing feedback, and ensuring all training adheres to safety and regulatory standards.
DUTIES
· Evaluate the competency and proficiency of P-3 Orion pilot students in all aircraft/flight operations, risk management, and all positional skills as defined by CBP/AMO policies.
· Maintain proficiency at, and effectively demonstrate, all normal and emergency maneuvers and procedures in the P-3 Operational Flight Simulator (OFT) for students to emulate in accordance with the P-3 Operators Manual and consistent with AMO evaluation practices.
· Create realistic simulator scenarios for pilots and crews at varying experience levels.
· Develop and update lesson plans, exams, grade sheets, training materials, and simulator scenarios.
· Administer, grade, file, and upload quizzes and exams to OpSTAR.
· Maintain and update relevant classroom training materials to include simulator scenarios and grade sheets
· Serve as advisor on creation of grade sheets, training materials, and other relevant documents related to P-3 aircraft for AMO.
· Maintain an expert level of knowledge of the CBP P-3 Operators Manual and all applicable CBP Air and Marine Operations flight publications.
· Coordinate and manage the training events calendar for each PIC & SIC ensuring all events are accomplished during each course.
· Provide simulator training and proficiency certification for new users of the P-3 Simulators (including AMO personnel and other users of the AMO-owned simulators).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· At least 3 years as a P-3 Instructor Pilot, with recent experience within 2 years of hire.
· A strong understanding of aviation regulations and safety protocols is essential.
· Comprehensive knowledge of the P-3 Orion''s avionics, navigation systems, engines, mission equipment, aviation regulations, safety protocols, CBP P-3 Operators Manual, and AMO flight publications.
· Familiarity with Operational Flight Simulator instruction, CRM, risk management, grading practices, and OpSTAR record uploads.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) certificate or military equivalent qualification preferred.
