Summary
The contractor shall deliver professional Exchange administration services, which include day-to-day operational support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation activities. Responsibilities shall be performed in accordance with client’s policies, security requirements, and change-management processes.
Key Responsibilities:
The contractor shall perform, but not be limited to, the following tasks:
- Monitor and maintain Microsoft Exchange mailboxes, distribution groups, and user accounts.
- Troubleshoot and resolve email-related issues including mailbox permissions, delivery problems, NDRs, and connectivity issues.
- Respond to and fulfil Exchange-related service requests and Service Desk tickets in a timely and professional manner.
- Conduct routine health checks to ensure messaging systems remain secure, operational, and compliant with LAPD standards.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, process records, and change history related to Exchange operations.
- Provide professional and courteous technical assistance to end users and internal support teams.
- Monitor, configure, and manage SMTP send/receive connectors to ensure proper mail flow, authentication, and TLS configurations.
- Perform message trace and SMTP log analysis to diagnose and resolve delivery failures, routing issues, or performance anomalies.
- Apply security patches, cumulative updates (CUs), and version upgrades to Exchange servers in compliance with LAPD change-management procedures and maintenance windows.
Required Skills:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange, Outlook, and Microsoft 365 administration.
- Familiarity with Active Directory concepts including users, groups, and permission structures.
- Understanding of Entra ID (Azure AD) including identity management and cloud authentication concepts.
- Strong foundational understanding of email routing, message security, and enterprise messaging best practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for interactions with both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Ability to use or learn PowerShell and other administrative tools for automation and system management.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
• Experience with Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, or other Microsoft 365 collaboration platforms.
• Knowledge of DNS, SMTP, and general networking concepts.
• Familiarity with Exchange Online or hybrid Exchange environments.
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles, patching, and secure system configuration.
Qualifications
• Prior experience supporting enterprise IT environments, messaging systems, or system administration functions.
• Previous work in help desk, desktop support, messaging operations, or comparable IT support roles.
• Experience working in government, public safety, or other highly regulated environment is preferred.
