Job Description

General Functions :
Performs intermediate technical work using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) systems in support of land surveying, engineering, mapping, roadway, and related public works projects. Prepares, revises, and maintains engineering and survey drawings, exhibits, maps, and related technical documents using County-approved software. Assists in processing engineering and survey information to prepare accurate design and mapping products. Work is performed with some independence under the limited supervision of an assigned supervisor. Performance is evaluated based on accuracy, technical knowledge demonstrated, productivity, and achievement of desired results.

Representative Duties/Assignments :
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

Prepares, updates, and maintains engineering, surveying, mapping, roadway engineering and construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D or other County-approved CADD software.
Creates computerized drawing files, plan sheets, profiles, exhibits, maps, details, and plotting layouts from field notes, sketches, survey information, engineering calculations, design documents, and other electronic data.
Prepares roadway engineering, drainage, right-of-way, surveying, mapping, and construction drawings in accordance with established County drafting standards.
Applies established horizontal and vertical coordinate systems, datums, units, and survey control information when preparing survey, mapping, and roadway engineering drawings.
Assists in processing survey information including point files, linework, coordinate data, digital terrain information, and field observations to prepare roadway engineering and survey drawings.
Produces topographic surveys, title surveys, tree surveys, design surveys, utility exhibits, right-of-way exhibits, maintenance maps, subdivision plats, and related mapping products.
Assists in preparing sketches, exhibits, easement drawings, legal description exhibits, and other technical documents under the direction of engineering or surveying staff.
Creates surfaces, alignments, profiles, cross sections, grading exhibits, and other design components utilizing Civil 3D and related software.
Applies knowledge of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, computer software, and basic engineering and surveying principles in preparing technical drawings and performing routine engineering and survey computations.
Reviews engineering and survey drawings for drafting accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with established County standards prior to final submission.
Reviews deeds, plats, easements, legal descriptions, right-of-way documents, and other recorded information for use in preparing survey and roadway engineering drawings and exhibits.
Assists engineers and survey staff by incorporating design revisions, updating plan sheets, preparing presentation graphics, preparing bid tabs, and maintaining electronic project files.
Performs field visits to obtain measurements, verify existing conditions, document site features, and collect information needed to prepare or revise engineering and survey drawings.
Assists with integrating CADD and GIS information for roadway engineering, infrastructure, and mapping projects.
Researches and utilizes available engineering plans, survey records, plats, aerial photography, record drawings, right-of-way maps, and other reference information to prepare technical drawings.
Coordinates drawing revisions with engineers, survey personnel, inspectors, consultants, contractors, and other County staff as required to support assigned projects.
Maintains electronic drawing files, sheet sets, plotting standards, and project documentation in accordance with established County procedures.
Operates wide-format plotting equipment and prepares drawings for electronic and printed distribution.
Provides technical drafting assistance to County staff regarding CADD standards, drawing formats, and electronic file preparation.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :
Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years of computerized design and drafting experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education or training.

Based on area of assignment may be required to possess a Driver's License and possess and maintain a Florida Driver's License within three months of hire.

Preferences :

Experience supporting roadway engineering, surveying, mapping, utilities, or related public works projects.

Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D or comparable CADD software.
Experience preparing engineering, surveying, mapping, roadway engineering drawings.
Working knowledge of surveying principles, engineering plans, and construction drawings.
Experience with ArcGIS or other GIS software.
Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
Experience with electronic document management systems.
Experience preparing survey exhibits, right-of-way drawings, easement exhibits, maintenance maps, and related technical drawings.
Familiarity with FDOT design and drafting standards.
