Job Summary
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking an experienced Information Security Architect to join its IT Security team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in security architecture, governance documentation, and security control design, with the ability to evaluate enterprise security solutions and translate policy requirements into technical implementations.
This role will focus on assessing security architectures, identifying gaps, managing security risks, and collaborating closely with security engineers and system administrators to ensure secure and resilient systems across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and prioritize critical business functions in collaboration with business and IT stakeholders
- Perform security architecture reviews, identify gaps, and develop comprehensive security risk management plans
- Evaluate proposed and existing security architectures and designs for adequacy against business and technical requirements
- Determine protection needs and required security controls for information systems and networks
- Map system configuration details to established Security Policy Controls
- Develop and maintain governance documentation for security tools and services
- Collaborate with Information Security Engineers and System Administrators to gather environment variables and system configurations
- Communicate complex security concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in information security with a focus on security technologies
- Proven expertise in security solutions such as SIEM, DLP, IAM, and Cloud Security
- Strong knowledge of enterprise IT architecture concepts and patterns (baseline, validated, and target architectures)
- Ability to determine how security systems should function, including resilience and dependability, and how changes in environments impact security outcomes
- Experience mapping system configurations to security policy and compliance controls
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in team environments
Highly Desired Skills
- Proficiency with documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Confluence
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Experience leading or contributing to cross-functional security or IT initiatives
- Background in project coordination or security-focused project management
