Business Data Specialist (Only W2)

Location: Hybrid (Chicago, IL Downtown office required 2 days/week, minimum Tuesdays)

Overview:
Work with a premier institutional investment office managing over $35 billion in assets. The team is seeking a hands-on, proactive Business Systems Analyst / Data Specialist to join their lean operations team on a temporary contract basis. In this role, you will act as a key contributor in driving the team's data transformation journey, taking manual investment processes and turning them into automated, low-code solutions within the Microsoft 365 environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Design, build, and maintain automated reporting and data flow processes using Power Query (M code), Power BI (DAX), and Power Apps (PowerFX).
Partner directly with investment operations to gather requirements and build seamless end-to-end reporting tools, such as monthly asset allocation "flash" reports and cash forecasting views.
Explore and implement visionary AI and automation projects, such as building Copilot Studio agents or Power Automate workflows to generate investment direction letters and streamline operations.
Cleanse, transform, and connect incoming data sources to visualization platforms while maintaining rigorous data integrity controls.
Provide day-to-day right-hand support to the lead database architect to maintain and scale the existing low-code data ecosystem without reliance on central IT infrastructure.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in a technical, financial, or related field.
8-10 years of professional experience delivering data solutions within a business unit.
Demonstrated hands-on expertise with the Microsoft 365 low-code ecosystem, including Power Query (M code), Power BI (DAX), Power Automate, and Power Apps / PowerFX.
Functional knowledge of finance, investments, or institutional asset management (e.g., asset allocation, market value adjustments, portfolio metrics).
Strong self-starter mindset with the ability to manage projects independently from start to finish without dedicated IT support.
Local to the Greater Chicago area and able to work in the downtown office on required hybrid days.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience working directly within an investment management team, pension trust, or corporate treasury environment.
Exposure to or hands-on experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio, AI agents, or API connectors (e.g., MCP connectors) for automated data extraction.
