Location: Remote - PST Preferred
Duration: 12 months
PAY: $72.09–$93.64/HR W2
Job Description:
Database Engineering services are focused on administration, maintaining, and assisting with scaling database capabilities to support the scale and performance requirements of Live Service games and shared services. The engagement provides technical support and database administration services across shared persistent data store technologies.
As a Database Engineering Contractor, you will support a global scope of databases servicing various services and games. You will assist in implementing and maintaining established database standards to help ensure service databases remain manageable and operational. You will collaborate and coordinate with engineers and technical teams on execution details for persistent storage solutions.
This engagement is suited for individuals experienced in executing high-impact technical tasks, delivering iterative solutions to database operational challenges, and balancing practical technical outcomes with service requirements.
Responsibilities
1. Database Infrastructure Management: Design, configure, provision, and maintain cloud-managed database systems, ensuring high uptime, scalability, and performance across varied game workloads and dynamic environments.
2. Automation & IaC Enhancement: Build, extend, and maintain database automation pipelines, tools, and infrastructure-as-code (using Terraform, Jenkins, AWS Lambda, CI/CD, and scripting) for automated provisioning, backups, maintenance, and schema changes.
3. Schema, Queries & Stored Procedures: Execute schema designs, query performance tuning, and updates to database components (e.g., stored procedures, scheduled jobs) to support game and service development teams.
4. Monitoring, Observability & Incident Response: Maintain database-level monitoring, alerting, and backup/failover mechanisms. Participate in on-call rotations to investigate and resolve routine and emergent production issues.
5. Maintenance & Migrations Coordination: Plan, test, and execute routine database maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, and data migrations in close coordination with partner teams to minimize service disruption.
6. Project Delivery & Ownership: Independently own and deliver well-scoped, multi-week to multi-month infrastructure projects—breaking down tasks, writing clear documentation, and occasionally guiding 1–3 engineers on execution goals.
