RPG Programmer (AS400)

Forman, Inc. has been providing quality food service disposables and sanitary maintenance products since 1945. We distribute products from over 100 manufacturers to national and regional wholesale distributors from our 140,000-square-foot warehouse facility.

We are currently seeking an RPG Programmer to support and enhance our IBM i (AS400) environment running on IBM Power Systems (currently Power9, with future upgrades to Power10/Power11 anticipated). This position focuses on maintaining legacy applications while contributing to modernization initiatives and system integrations. The role reports directly to the Senior IT Director and is based at our headquarters in Windsor Mill, Maryland.

Primary Responsibilities

• Maintain, modify, and enhance legacy and modern applications in an IBM i environment
• Develop and support programs written in RPG Free, RPG III, RPG IV (RPGILE), SQLRPGLE, CL, CLEE, OCL, CMD, and REXX
• Work with ILE concepts including BINDING directories, service programs (SRVPGM), and stored procedures
• Utilize development tools including SEU, PDM, SDA, RDi (Rational Developer for i), and Visual Studio Code
• Support database systems using IBM DB2, DDS, DDL, and IFS
• Work with data formats including CSV, and other PC file formats
• Maintain and modify screen and file definitions using DDS, SDA, UIM, and DSPF36
• Develop and support integrations utilizing SQL, Query/400, CGI, JavaScript, JSON, XML, HTML, Node.js, and PHP
• Support EDI and X12 standards
• Assist with IBM system operations including:
• IBM Navigator for i
• System configuration and services (PTFs, system values, licensing)
• TCP/IP services (SMTP, POP3, HTTP, NetServer, FTP)
• Work management (jobs, subsystems, queues, printing, job scheduling)
• Backup processes utilizing tape cartridge systems
• Troubleshoot system issues and provide production support
• Participate in modernization initiatives while supporting legacy environments
• Provide other basic network support to users
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience in an IBM i / AS400 environment
• Degree in Computer Science or related experience.
• Strong programming experience in RPG and CL (RPG Free, RPGIII, RPGILE, SQLRPGLE)
• Working knowledge of IBM DB2, DDS, and DDL database structures
• Experience with IBM development tools (SEU, PDM, SDA, RDi, ACS)
• Familiarity with web technologies and integration tools (JavaScript, JSON, XML, HTML, Node.js, PHP)
• Experience supporting TCP/IP services and IBM i work management
• EDI experience (Cleo preferred) strongly desired
• Distribution or wholesale industry experience a plus
