Summary

Job Description Summary
This role involves leading interdisciplinary teams to define user workflows, interactions, and experiences based on a deep understanding of user-centered design principles, and customer needs of medicals devices like MR products.
Usability Engineers act as key team members interacting with development/design engineers to review the usability of MR medical devices. One of the primary responsibilities will involve interacting with end users to create and execute usability tests which required for regulatory approval and product quality/reliability. Usability Engineers work hands on with products and spend time working through issues and helping drive resolution.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Work directly with end users and business partners to capture and analyze user workflow and user experience issues, and ensure translation of user, business, and technical requirements into interaction design concepts
  • Work with new product development core teams to lead usability design and own usability-related program deliverables (Use analysis report, Use failure mode and effects analysis, etc.)
  • Work with design teams to complete formative and summative usability studies including developing study plans, scripts, and reports during new product development.
  • Provide domain expertise to participate in technical design reviews, technical discussions, and risk mitigations with focus on evaluation of design of user workflows, interactions, and experiences based on user-centered design principles and customer needs
  • Work with Quality & Regulatory teams to ensure medical regulatory requirements are integrated within the product development process
  • Serve as a local thought leader and consulting resource for all user experience issues
  • Utilize observational research, usability tests, expert reviews, heuristic evaluations, customer surveys, and other user-centered design methodologies
  • Promote a user-centered design process throughout the company and contribute to overall user experience project planning and strategic initiatives

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in "STEM" Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math); Cognitive Psychology, Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors; or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years professional experience; or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and use of creativity to solve user needs
  • Demonstrated experience working with a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated program/project management skills
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with ISO, FDA and other regulatory standards

Desired Characteristics
  • Master's degree in Engineering or Cognitive/Experimental Psychology with a concentration in Human Factors / Ergonomics, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field of study
  • Experience with Usability/Human Factors Work Instructions and International Standards
  • Experience in product life cycle and/or software development life cycle
  • Team leadership experience
  • Experience performing product design work in a highly regulated industry
  • Understanding of cultural variations and their impact on user needs
