- As senior Information Assurance specialist, manages and ensures appropriate coordination of Certification and Accreditation processes as they pertain to AFNORTH/CONR systems
- Analyzes requirements and establishes plans of action for improving IT systems/applications
- Reviews and implements emerging DoD and Air Force Information Assurance guidance, policy and regulations.
- As a senior IT specialist responsible for Information Assurance, ensures emergent systems within AFNORTH/CONR scope

- Position requires industry certification in accordance with DoD Directive 8570.1M, DoD Information System. Upon hire or within 6 months of selection to fill position, is required to attain a CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station and involve travel on military and commercial aircraft
- Overtime and/or emergency overtime may be required.
- Incumbent will abide by local safety regulations, when in a TDY status, including the wearing of special safety clothing and equipment.
- May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekend and/or holidays.
- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
- Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety. Category II/Type 5/Code O.
- Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. Position includes work as a paramount duty requirement. DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties.
- A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD regulations. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
- Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
- Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Information Technology (IT) Management Series, GS-2210 (Alternate A). ;br>
EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes demonstrating the ability in utilizing IT network systems design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements. Ability to integrate methods, IT security principles and methods, and project management principles and methods sufficient to plan and coordinate the authority to operate and authority to connect new products or equipment. In-depth understanding of DoD and Air Force Information Assurance Directives and Policies.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. In-depth knowledge of DoD and Air Force Information Assurance Directives and Policies.
2. Knowledge of a full range of IT security principles, concepts, practices, products, and services (including system software, database software, immediate access storage technology), and methods for evaluating risk and vulnerability, implementing mitigating improvement, and disseminating IT security tools and procedures.
3. Knowledge of a wide range of IT networking principles, concepts, and methods.
4. Knowledge of the Air Force's policy and planning formulation process along with its mission and objectives to prepare IT policies and plans.
5. Knowledge of system architecture, integration techniques, and testing methods.
6. In-depth knowledge of DoD's Defense Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process(DIACAP).
7. In-depth knowledge of the Air Force's Certification and Accreditation process and configuration management regulations, principles, and techniques.
8. Knowledge of and familiarity with DoD and Air Force agencies responsible for coordinating Information Assurance efforts.
9. Knowledge of industry best practices relating to security management, information assurance, and configuration control.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
