Summary

Mount Laurel, NJ | On-Site

Help engineer operational defense systems that protect U.S. Navy ships and allies around the world.

Three things to know up front: hands-on experience with C++ and IBM Rational DOORS/DOORS Next, and full time on-site work in NJ is required.

This is an individual contributor systems engineering role, not a software development position and not a people-management role. We're looking for engineers who enjoy understanding complex systems, working with requirements, integrating and testing systems, troubleshooting difficult technical problems, and seeing their work become operational.

You'll join a long-tenured engineering team embedded with a major defense prime supporting one of the Navy's most sophisticated operational combat systems. The engineering organization has supported this customer for nearly two decades, and its engineers are treated as integral members of the team rather than outside contractors.

The company has built an exceptional reputation for stability, technical excellence, and investing in its engineers. Many members of this team have been there for years because they enjoy the work, the people, and the opportunity to continue growing technically.

If you enjoy figuring out why something doesn't work, tracing behavior back through requirements and code, collaborating across engineering disciplines, and solving complex technical problems, we'd love to talk.

What You'll Do

You'll work across multiple phases of the systems engineering lifecycle supporting operational defense programs. Depending on your experience, responsibilities may include:

  • Requirements development, decomposition, allocation, and traceability
  • Requirements management using IBM Rational DOORS / DOORS Next
  • Reading and working with C++ code as part of systems engineering, integration, troubleshooting, and technical investigation
  • Verification & Validation (V&V)
  • Systems Integration and Test
  • Environmental Test & Evaluation (ET&E)
  • Technical investigations and root cause analysis
  • Defect analysis and troubleshooting
  • Working closely with software, hardware, test, and systems engineering teams
  • Collaborating with senior technical leaders on complex operational defense programs

Required Qualifications

Please note: C++ and DOORS are requirements for this role, rather than preferred skills.

  • Hands-on C++ experience sufficient to read, understand, and investigate existing code and system behavior
  • Hands-on experience with IBM Rational DOORS and/or DOORS Next Generation
  • Systems engineering experience involving requirements, integration, test, verification/validation, or closely related engineering work
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or another technical discipline
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Active Secret clearance, recently lapsed clearance eligible for reinstatement, or ability to obtain a Secret clearance through sponsorship
  • Ability to work on-site in the Moorestown/Mount Laurel, New Jersey area

Additional Skills We're Interested In

You don't need every item below. Experience in several of these areas could make you particularly well suited to the work:

  • Requirements Engineering
  • Requirements decomposition and allocation
  • Requirements traceability
  • Verification & Validation (V&V)
  • Systems Integration
  • Integration & Test
  • Environmental Test & Evaluation (ET&E)
  • Root cause analysis
  • Technical investigations
  • Defect analysis and troubleshooting
  • Python
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Cameo
  • MagicDraw
  • Rhapsody

Nice to Have

Experience supporting any of the following is a plus, but not required:

  • Aegis or other naval combat systems
  • Missile defense programs
  • Integrated weapon systems
  • Shipboard systems
  • Automated testing
  • MATLAB
  • Containerized environments

Experience Level

Approximately 4 10 years of relevant engineering experience is typical, but we're open to different experience levels.

That includes strong earlier-career engineers who already have the required C++ and DOORS experience, as well as more senior engineers who want to remain hands-on rather than move into management.

Prior naval combat systems experience is welcome but isn't required.

Why This Role?

This is a strong fit for an engineer who wants challenging technical work without having to become a manager to keep growing.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers, tackle real systems problems, and contribute to operational defense capabilities while becoming part of a team known for stability, mentorship, technical collaboration, and long-term relationships.

If you're happiest when you're digging into requirements, code, test results, and system behavior to figure out why something isn't working and how to fix it, we'd love to learn more about you.

Benefits

Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), disability insurance, and tuition assistance.
