Senior Software Engineer – Google Cloud Platform, AI & DevOps

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Backend Developer with strong Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) experience to join a team focused on AI acceleration and modern software development. The ideal candidate will have strong backend engineering expertise, hands-on experience with Java and Python, and exposure to AI technologies and deploying AI solutions through DevOps practices in a Google Cloud Platform environment.

This is primarily a backend-focused role, with some exposure to Angular/UI technologies. The engineer will work across the organization, collaborate with technical and business stakeholders, and help drive the development and deployment of cloud-native and AI-enabled solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and support backend applications and cloud-native services.
• Develop scalable applications and APIs using Java and Python.
• Build and deploy applications and AI-enabled solutions within Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform).
• Support DevOps activities, including CI/CD, containerization, deployment automation, and cloud infrastructure.
• Work with AI technologies and contribute to AI acceleration initiatives.
• Integrate applications with AI services, enterprise systems, knowledge sources, and other business platforms.
• Leverage modern software development practices to build reliable and scalable solutions.
• Work with AI Copilot and related AI development capabilities where applicable.
• Contribute to emerging AI architectures such as RAG, agentic workflows, AI orchestration, and intelligent automation.
• Provide technical guidance and contribute to solution architecture and platform engineering efforts.
• Collaborate with teams across the organization to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
• Participate in meetings with technical and business stakeholders and communicate project status, technical updates, and recommendations to leadership.
• Support the team as it expands by contributing technical vision and engineering best practices.
• Work with Angular/UI components as needed, although the position is primarily backend focused.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• 8+ years of software engineering/development experience, with strong backend experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform).
• Experience with Java and Python in professional software development environments.
• Experience with DevOps practices and cloud deployments.
• Experience working with or exposure to an AI technology stack.
• Experience deploying AI-enabled applications or services using DevOps practices in a Google Cloud Platform environment.
• Strong understanding of modern software development practices.
• Strong backend development and API experience.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and upper management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform Cloud Run.
• Experience with BigQuery and cloud-based data/analytics solutions.
• Experience with Angular.
• Experience with AI Copilot/Copilot-based development.
• Experience with RAG, agentic AI, AI orchestration, prompt management, or intelligent workflows.
• Experience with containerization and CI/CD pipelines.
• Solution architecture or platform engineering experience.
• Ford experience is highly preferred.
• Previous automotive industry experience is strongly preferred.
• Mentoring or technical leadership experience is a plus.

Work Environment

• Hybrid position – 4 days onsite per week.
• Candidate must be local or willing to travel/relocate as required for onsite work and interviews.
• The hiring manager requires an in-person second-round interview; this requirement is mandatory.
• Candidates should be comfortable working with teams and stakeholders across the organization.
• Immediate availability/start is highly preferred.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior backend engineer who combines strong Java/Python development skills with Google Cloud Platform, DevOps, and AI experience. Candidates who have worked on AI-enabled applications and deployed them in Google Cloud Platform environments, particularly within an automotive or Ford environment, will be especially strong fits.
