Summary

MTSI is seeking a full-time DevOps Engineer located at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The DevOps Engineer will support automation, Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, deployment workflows, and controlled change management for the cloud modernization effort. This role will help ensure that infrastructure, system configurations, network configurations, deployment pipelines, and environment changes are repeatable, version-controlled, tested, documented, and auditable.

The candidate will work with network engineers, cloud engineers, system engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and application teams to build and maintain automation workflows that support both on-premise and cloud environments.

The ideal candidate has helped teams move from manual infrastructure changes to repeatable, controlled, and auditable automation. They should understand the importance of version control, peer review, pipeline validation, documentation, and rollback. They should also understand that infrastructure automation must be implemented carefully in production and security-sensitive environments.

Responsibilities:

Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:
Develop, maintain, and improve Infrastructure as Code repositories.
Support automated deployment of cloud infrastructure, network components, compute resources, access controls, storage resources, and monitoring components.
Maintain Git-based change control for infrastructure and system configuration.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment, validation, testing, and release control.
Support configuration management and automated hardening where applicable.
Develop reusable modules, templates, playbooks, scripts, and pipeline jobs.
Integrate change management workflows with Git, GitLab, Jira, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, or similar tools.
Maintain branching strategies, merge request processes, approval workflows, and release tagging.
Support environment promotion from development to test, staging, pilot, and production.
Develop rollback strategies for infrastructure and configuration changes.
Support secrets management, certificate handling, access tokens, and credential protection.
Participate in security reviews, code reviews, architecture reviews, and deployment readiness reviews.
Assist teams in adopting DevOps practices without sacrificing operational stability or compliance.
Strong attention to detail in code, configuration, syntax, and change documentation.
Work closely with engineers who may not be automation experts.
Enforce standards for code review, documentation, and approval.
Balance automation speed with operational risk.
Mentor junior staff.
Create and deliver system status updates to customers and stakeholders.

Qualifications Required:
Ability to explain DevOps workflows to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
Strong written communication for runbooks, README files, and deployment guides.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Applicants should have experience with:
  • Infrastructure as Code principles and practices.
  • Git-based source control and collaborative development workflows.
  • CI/CD pipeline design and execution.
  • Change management and release management in controlled environments.
  • Configuration management and repeatable deployment practices.
  • Linux and Windows system administration fundamentals.
  • Cloud infrastructure deployment concepts.
  • Secret management, environment variables, certificate handling, and secure credential practices.
  • YAML, JSON, HCL, Markdown, and structured configuration formats.
