Network Engineer

Overview

A Network Engineer develops and maintains reliable, secure, and efficient data communication networks. This includes local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), intranets, and cloud-based systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, install, and configure network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls)
• Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues
• Ensure network security and implement best practices
• Maintain network documentation (topologies, configurations)
• Perform system upgrades and patches
• Collaborate with IT teams and vendors
• Support disaster recovery and backup solutions
• Optimize network performance and scalability

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
• Experience with routing and switching technologies
• Familiarity with firewalls and network security tools
• Knowledge of cloud networking (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure)
• Troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Understanding of network monitoring tools
• Scripting knowledge (Python, Bash) is a plus

Qualifications

• Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
• Certifications such as:
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
• Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
• 2 5+ years of relevant experience (varies by role level)

Work Environment

• Typically works in office or data center environments
• May require on-call support or after-hours work
• Can include remote or hybrid setups
