We're seeking a Packaging Design Engineer who thrives at the intersection of engineering, collaboration, and innovation.
Hours & Pay
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-5:00 PM
- Pay Rate: $60-$65 per hour, depending on experience
- Employment Type: Direct Hire
About the Role
In this role, you will design, develop, and support industrial packaging solutions for engineered products. You'll collaborate closely with product engineering, sales, marketing, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to deliver cost-effective, durable, and sustainable packaging that meets regulatory, safety, and shipping requirements.
What You'll Do
- Design and manage packaging solutions for industrial products across North American operations
- Collaborate with product engineers, sales, marketing, customers, distributors, and suppliers to align packaging with product and customer needs
- Create, review, and release CAD and assembly drawings for packaging fabrication, ensuring adherence to internal document control processes
- Develop and apply packaging guidelines and standards across global operations
- Evaluate existing packaging to identify root causes of failures and engineer improvements for strength, efficiency, safety, and cost reduction
- Incorporate sustainable and "green" packaging concepts to reduce environmental impact and material costs
- Design packaging with a focus on ergonomics, employee safety, stacking, palletizing, banding, and shipping efficiency
- Obtain pricing, lead times, and issue requisitions for new packaging materials and designs
- Maintain strong supplier relationships and support fabrication and procurement timelines
- Support quality initiatives by integrating packaging standards into plant quality systems
- Maintain DOT HAZMAT, IATA, and ISPM 15 certifications and required documentation
- Provide technical input on materials, processes, and preferred packaging methods to product engineering and purchasing teams
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering
- 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering with a focus on industrial packaging design
- Strong CAD design experience (PRO/E preferred) and the ability to generate detailed packaging and assembly drawings
- Experience designing packaging for strength, functionality, sustainability, and cost-industrial products rather than retail packaging
- Solid project management skills and the ability to manage multiple packaging initiatives simultaneously
- Proficiency with standard PC applications, including spreadsheets, databases, and project management tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in both office and plant environments and lift up to 40 pounds as needed
