Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Oracle Forms & Reports Migration Specialist to lead a critical infrastructure modernization initiative. This role involves migrating a legacy Oracle Forms & Reports 10g environment from end-of-life Windows servers to a modern, supported Linux-based Oracle Forms & Reports 12c architecture. The successful candidate will design, build, migrate, and validate the new environment while ensuring functional parity and enabling the complete decommissioning of legacy Windows-based Oracle servers.

Project Background

The current environment includes Oracle Forms & Reports 10g running on Oracle Application Server 10g, hosted on VMware-virtualized Windows Server 2003 R2 and 2008. Supporting databases include Oracle 10g and 11gR2. Due to end-of-life operating systems presenting unacceptable operational and security risks, the organization has mandated a complete platform exit to Linux (RHEL 7.9) with upgraded Oracle Forms & Reports 12c and database migration to Oracle 12c or 19c.

Key Responsibilities Architecture & Planning
  • Conduct comprehensive review of current Oracle Forms, Reports, and database environment
  • Identify version-specific upgrade considerations and dependencies
  • Define target-state architecture encompassing application tier, database tier, and client access
  • Recommend optimal Oracle Database target version (12c vs 19c) based on environment requirements
  • Produce detailed migration plan and cutover approach
Linux Environment Build
  • Validate RHEL 7.9 baseline suitability for Oracle Forms & Reports 12c
  • Define and configure required OS packages, libraries (including 32-bit/X11), and kernel parameters
  • Configure Oracle user accounts, directory structures, and permissions
  • Install and configure Oracle JDK 8 (pinned version)
Oracle Forms & Reports 12c Installation
  • Install Oracle Fusion Middleware Infrastructure 12c
  • Install Oracle Forms & Reports 12c and apply latest recommended bundle patches
  • Configure Forms & Reports domain
  • Configure WebLogic Admin and managed servers for Forms and Reports
Database Migration
  • Design database migration approach (export/import, RMAN, Data Pump, or upgrade)
  • Migrate Oracle 10g and 11gR2 databases (including Data Guard if applicable)
  • Validate schema integrity, stored procedures, and Forms connectivity
Forms & Reports Migration and Validation
  • Compile and migrate Forms modules from 10g to 12c
  • Resolve compilation warnings and runtime issues
  • Validate Reports output, formatting, and fonts
  • Configure Forms servlet and runtime parameters
  • Validate Forms launch via Java Web Start (JNLP)
Client Access & Runtime Validation
  • Validate Forms client launch using Java Web Start
  • Define supported client Java versions
  • Address certificate, security prompt, and trust issues
  • Validate browser-based launch workflow
Hardening and Operational Readiness
  • Provide post-install OS hardening guidance (SELinux, firewall, services)
  • Develop backup and recovery recommendations
  • Create patch management guidance
  • Conduct knowledge transfer to internal staff
Cutover and Decommissioning Support
  • Assist with production cutover planning
  • Validate production environment
  • Support decommissioning of Windows-based Oracle servers
Required Qualifications
  • Mandatory: Verifiable experience with Oracle Forms & Reports migration (10g to 11g/12c)
  • Mandatory: Hands-on experience with Oracle Fusion Middleware 12c (Forms & Reports)
  • Mandatory: Oracle Database administration and migration expertise (10g/11g to 12c/19c)
  • Mandatory: Linux administration experience (RHEL 7 preferred)
  • Mandatory: Prior Windows-to-Linux Oracle migrations (verifiable reference required)
  • Experience with Java Web Start (JNLP) for Oracle Forms deployment
  • Familiarity with Oracle patching (OPatch, bundle patches)
