Summary

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for an GL ACCOUNTING MANAGER for a FULL TIME assignment with one of our premier UTILITY clients in SAN JOSE, CA . Responsibilities
  • Lead daily accounting operations to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Oversee complex account reconciliations across general ledger and subsidiary ledger functions.
  • Review and approve journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and other accounting transactions.
  • Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including reconciliations, schedules, and reporting deliverables.
  • Serve as the escalation point for accounting discrepancies and drive timely issue resolution.
  • Coordinate audit activities, prepare supporting documentation, and respond to auditor requests and inquiries.
  • Support regulatory reporting requirements and ensure adherence to internal controls and compliance standards.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and variance analysis activities.
  • Lead and develop accounting team members through hiring, coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Prepare and review financial reports and analyses that support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen controls, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Partner with internal departments and external stakeholders to support financial and accounting objectives.
  • Support treasury and cash management functions as needed.
  • Assist with ERP system enhancements, accounting system upgrades, and financial data integrations.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Travel occasionally to support operations across multiple locations.
  • Provide limited evening, weekend, or on-call support when required to meet critical business deadlines.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree and/or 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
  • Proven experience leading accounting teams or cross-functional finance initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices.
  • Extensive experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Experience managing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Experience supporting internal and external audits, including preparation of audit documentation.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate variances and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Understanding of internal controls, SOX compliance, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience working with ERP and enterprise accounting systems.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation abilities.
Preferred Skills
  • CPA certification.
  • Experience within a regulated industry such as utilities, energy, infrastructure, or similar sectors.
  • Experience supporting accounting system implementations or upgrades.
  • Experience with Oracle or comparable ERP accounting platforms.
  • Exposure to treasury, debt financing, and cash management activities.
