Role & Responsibilities
We are seeking a Software Engineering Project Manager for an aerospace and defense technology company, which would be a great opportunity for someone with experience in software project planning, resource allocation, and distributed team coordination looking to further their career in engineering program management.
• Own planning, tracking, and delivery across all active software projects, building and maintaining project plans in Smartsheet.
• Track day-to-day engineering work in GitLab (issues, boards, milestones) and report status into JIRA for corporate visibility.
• Manage engineer resource allocation, preventing overcommitment and fragmentation across competing priorities.
• Control work intake, shield engineers from context-switching, and queue new requests when capacity is exceeded.
• Partner with engineering leads to continually reassess prioritization and focus on the highest-value work.
• Coordinate distributed teams across multiple continents and time zones using clear asynchronous communication.
• Surface risks, blockers, and resourcing conflicts early; facilitate standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives; report to leadership.
Essential Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems.
• 5+ years of project or program management experience, a significant portion managing software development projects.
• Experience allocating resources, prioritizing concurrent projects, and renegotiating scope or timelines with leadership.
• Proficiency with Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, or similar planning tools; JIRA and GitLab fluency or ability to learn quickly.
• Ability to translate technical work (features, bugs, dependencies) into clear status and risk updates for non-technical stakeholders.
Bonus Qualifications
• Prior software engineering background; PMP, CSM, SAFe, or similar certification.
• Experience managing global teams across time zones, Agile/Scrum, and bridging GitLab and JIRA tracking.
• Aerospace, defense, robotics, or other hardware-adjacent software experience.
