Data Scientist

Position Summary

The Data Scientist supports internal AI and analytics initiatives by applying data science, machine learning, statistical modeling, and programming expertise to solve business problems. This role focuses on developing, evaluating, and documenting analytical, machine learning, and AI-driven solutions while ensuring results are accurate, explainable, and aligned with business objectives.

A successful candidate will possess a strong foundation in machine learning, statistical modeling, and advanced SQL, and will partner with senior data scientists, analytics engineers, and business stakeholders to translate complex analytical work into actionable business insights.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve statistical, machine learning, and AI models using appropriate performance metrics and analytical methodologies.
  • Perform data cleaning, feature engineering, exploratory data analysis, model evaluation, prompt engineering, and support development of LLM-based applications.
  • Apply statistical techniques including hypothesis testing, time series analysis, and experimental or causal analysis to identify trends and measure business impact.
  • Translate analytical findings into clear, actionable insights that support business decision-making.
  • Participate in the full analytics lifecycle, including analysis, validation, deployment support, monitoring, and measurement of results.
  • Contribute to the enhancement and maintenance of existing analytics solutions, machine learning models, and AI applications.
  • Document solution designs, modeling approaches, analytical assumptions, data definitions, and limitations in a clear and reproducible manner.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to understand requirements, validate outcomes, and ensure solutions meet operational needs.
  • Utilize modern AI and analytics techniques to address business challenges and drive data-informed decision making.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Machine Learning & Modeling

  • Demonstrated experience developing and evaluating machine learning models, statistical models, and predictive analytics solutions.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning concepts, feature engineering, model evaluation, and statistical methodologies.
  • Experience applying advanced statistical modeling, machine learning techniques, and/or AI models to solve business problems.

SQL & Data Analysis

  • Strong SQL skills are required.
  • Proven ability to write complex SQL queries against large relational databases for data extraction, transformation, validation, and analysis.
  • Experience performing complex analysis on large data sets and translating findings into business recommendations.

Programming & Analytics

  • Strong Python programming skills within data science, machine learning, AI, and statistical analysis environments.
  • Experience conducting exploratory data analysis and building analytical workflows using Python and SQL.

Additional Preferred Technical Experience

  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms and infrastructure such as Snowflake and AWS.
  • Familiarity with version control tools (Git) and collaborative development practices.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude Code.
  • Knowledge of Excel and Power BI.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree in an analytical field such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
  • 1+ year of experience using Python and advanced SQL to conduct complex analysis against large datasets.
  • 1+ year of experience building and evaluating machine learning models, statistical models, and/or AI applications.
  • 1+ year of experience working with large databases and performing complex analytical work.
  • Must reside in the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area.
  • This is primarily an in office position, with one remote day per week
