Firewall Engineer
Our client is looking for driven engineers who want to play a real role in building something distinctive in their domain.
The company is located in Washington D.C. and will remain 100% remote, the candidate needs to work EST hours.
This position is a 6 month contract-to-hire.
What You Will Be Doing:
Apply updates and modifications across existing firewall policies
Maintain and revise technical documentation to align with current operations
Configure, operate, and optimize F5 load balancing solutions (LTM, GTM)
Architect, deploy, and sustain enterprise network environments
Provide hands-on support for core data center networking functions
Administer and fine-tune tools including IDS/IPS, URL filtering, App Control, AV, and malware detection systems
Participate in after-hours work when required for incidents, upgrades, or scheduled maintenance
Required Skills & Experience:
5+ years in IT, cybersecurity, or related technical domains
4+ years managing and configuring enterprise-scale firewalls (Palo Alto preferred)
1+ year supporting F5 BIG-IP platforms (LTM, GTM, APM, AFM, AWAF)
1+ year with BIG-IQ centralized management
Strong command of security operations, firewall rule sets, and policy enforcement
Solid networking fundamentals, paired with the ability to rapidly diagnose and contain issues during outages
Proficiency in packet capture and OSI-layer traffic troubleshooting
Professional communication and consistent status reporting to leadership
Flexibility to support evening or weekend work as needed
Ability to execute independently with minimal oversight
Resourceful mindset - able to research, unblock, and drive forward without waiting
Demonstrated bias toward excellence, effort, and ownership rather than minimum compliance
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis now and in the future.
