The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system's 2,000-square-mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

This includes 14 Wastewater Resource Recovery Facilities, sludge dewatering facilities, collections facilities (pumping stations, combined sewer overflow retention facilities, regulators, tide gates, etc.), wastewater laboratories, and harbor vessels. The collection system includes 497 sewer regulators, 152 miles of intercepting sewers, 96 pumping systems, 3 CSO storage facilities, and 3 aeration facilities.
The Collections Engineering unit oversees all planning, analysis, design, and construction efforts related to the Bureau's collections facilities and associated linear assets. The selected candidate for the analysis and planning section will assist engineers in checking CCFISS trends for sensor performance, reviewing field service reports from the contractor and comparing them to DEP logs, and reconciling data gaps in BWT PS and regulator tables and maps. The selected candidate for the collections engineering section will prepare a complete list of Collections Engineering assets (for inspection), identify the inaccessible assets, their locations, the cause of inaccessibility, the owner agency and contact person, and reconcile data gaps in BWT Asset Maps.
