The Work:

The Data Analysis and Visual Content Specialist is responsible for conducting in-depth analysis of complex data, designing compelling visual content, and delivering actionable insights to support organizational objectives. This position requires expertise in data analytics, visualization tools, and creative content development to communicate technical information effectively. The Specialist plays a key role in transforming analytical findings into impactful representations, enabling stakeholders to make data-driven decisions and fostering engagement across diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
  • Data Analysis:
    • Conduct thorough research and identify data sources on science, technology, and innovation trends. Create and clearly communicate results of analysis for distribution within and outside the department.
  • Data Visualization:
    • Identify data sources and create digital and visual content that communicates policy on science, technology, and innovation issues for distribution within and outside the department.
    • Additional visualizations will be presented for science diplomacy programs. Visual products should reflect and convey client strategic interests. Format of visualizations will be both interactive (on ISTIX) or stagnant (paper or presentations). Any online, interactive datasets must follow all State Department information and security guidelines for the ISTIX system.
  • Update Written ISTIX Content:
    • Work with client stakeholders and bureaus and interagency partners to ensure written and visual content on ISTIX across a variety of topics (agriculture, research security, health, environment, etc.) is up to date and factually accurate. The specialist will bring an innovative approach to communication that keeps pace with the rapidly evolving policy environment. Articles will be well-written, fact-based, and follow formatting approved by the client.
  • Support Training:
    • Support the onboarding and training of interagency users to the ISTIX. This will include being available to answer questions on article content and data products on the site and contributing to training on how users can utilize ISTIX written and visual products.
  • Support Science Diplomacy Efforts:
    • Under the oversight of a Team Lead this role will:
      • Assist in efforts to advance science diplomacy through a spectrum of activities, including but not limited to bilateral meetings, consultations, visitor programs, advocacy, outreach, and programmatic activities.
      • Assist in the understanding the principles of engagement and how to conduct post-led such engagement activities.
      • Provide support to officials participating in international related meetings and events.
  • Other Duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Qualifications - Here's What You Need:
  • Experience with US foreign affairs/policy.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in the academic, private, and/or federal sectors.
  • Expert on various platforms and applications necessary to effectively fulfill duties.
  • Demonstrate and hone job knowledge and make recommendations to promote efficiency and productivity and fulfill mission requirements.
  • Secret Clerance is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Minimum Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, including follow-up on pending tasks.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate information derived from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple assignments with tight deadlines that often require coordination with other organizations.
  • Meet high standards of participation and teamwork.

Reports to: Program Manager

Working Conditions:
  • Professional office environment, with the ability to work onsite in the main office.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
  • Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
  • May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
  • May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
  • May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
