Qualifications/Requirements:

We are seeking a Chief Architect to serve as the principal designer and technical strategist for the Armament Directorate's digital landscape. The Chief Architect supports the Armament Directorate by providing technical leadership for key initiatives across the enterprise and is responsible for leading a technical team in the design, development, and implementation of advanced and secure IT solutions.

In this role, you will collaborate tightly with IT and cybersecurity subject matter experts to define the long-term technical vision, establish architectural standards, and oversee the integration of secure, scalable, and resilient enterprise systems. You will interface closely with weapons program offices to understand their unique IT requirements and translate those into effective solutions. You will bridge the gap between high-level business strategy and technical execution, guiding engineering teams to deliver robust platforms that support our mission.

This role offers the opportunity to directly shape the digital infrastructure supporting weapons development. By driving innovation and leading our technical execution, you will ensure our teams deliver the platforms required to execute the Armament Directorate's mission.

Demonstrated experience/expertise in leading complex technical efforts.

Proven ability to interface with multiple customers and manage complex requirements.

Experience with or an interest in learning about IT systems and cybersecurity processes.

Ability to evaluate customer use cases and provide data-driven recommendations for optimal IT solutions based on cost, schedule, and performance requirements.

Ability to plan, organize, and lead others in studies or projects and to implement recommendations which may require substantial resources and/or require extensive procedural changes.

Highly collaborative mindset with the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to brief senior leadership.

KSAs:

Engineering Leadership - Lead, mentor, and direct a multidisciplinary technical team of civilians and contractors through all phases of the system development lifecycle. Ensure all engineering work consistently meets rigorous standards of quality and technical excellence. Serve as the first-level supervisor directly overseeing four engineers and computer scientists.

Systems Engineering Oversight - Ensure that solutions are implemented with a systems engineering perspective. Lead Configuration Control Board (CCB) and brief the Director of Engineering (DoE) to approve major design decisions and document design rationales. Ensure interoperability, lifecycle management, stakeholder alignment, repeatability/scalability, etc. are considered from a holistic view.

Strategic Coordination - Engage with external organizations, mission partners, Department of War (DoW), and Department of the Air Force (DAF) leadership to keep the Armament Directorate informed on new technology, best practices, higher level IT strategy, emerging policy, and enterprise-level solutions.

Technology Adoption - Partner with leadership to align technology spending with organizational goals. Drive requirements gathering, refinement, and validation with teams across the directorate to prioritize implementation efforts. Support the development of detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets. Provide technical decision support to leadership.

Cross Functional Collaboration - Partner closely with IT Cybersecurity subject matter experts to formulate the enterprise architecture roadmap, evaluate emerging technologies (AI/ML, cloud-native services, zero-trust frameworks, etc.) for strategic fit, and define migration paths from legacy systems to modern, cloud-optimized architectures.

Communication - Possess exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership abilities, with a demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
