Job Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned Data Architect to lead the design and execution of a strategic data modernization program. The architect will be responsible for defining the target data architecture, migration strategy, and governance framework to transition legacy systems to a modern cloud-native ELT stack using Matillion and Snowflake.
Key Responsibilities:
Architecture & Strategy
Define the end-to-end data architecture for the migration program.
Develop migration blueprints from IBM DataStage and legacy databases (MS SQL Server, Netezza, Oracle) to Snowflake using Matillion.
Establish data modeling standards, ELT patterns, and performance optimization strategies for Snowflake.
Evaluate and recommend data integration frameworks, metadata management, and lineage tracking tools.
Migration Planning & Execution.
Lead data assessment and gap analysis of legacy systems.
Design data migration workflows, including staging, transformation, and validation.
Collaborate with ETL developers to re-engineer DataStage jobs into Matillion pipelines.
Ensure data quality, consistency, and reconciliation during migration.
Governance & Compliance.
Define and implement data governance policies, including security, privacy, and access controls.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.) where applicable.
Establish monitoring and alerting mechanisms for data pipelines.
Collaboration & Leadership.
Work closely with Solution Directors, Data Engineers, DBAs, and Business Analysts.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to the data engineering team.
Act as a bridge between business and technology, translating requirements into scalable data solutions.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
10 - 15 years of experience in data architecture and ETL/ELT design.
Proven experience with IBM DataStage, MS SQL Server, Oracle, and Netezza.
Hands-on expertise in Matillion, Snowflake, and cloud data platforms (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform).
Strong understanding of data modeling (3NF, dimensional), SQL performance tuning, and data warehousing concepts.
Experience with data governance, metadata management, and data lineage tools.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and documentation skills.
Preferred Skills:
Certifications in Snowflake, Matillion, or Cloud Architecture.
Experience with Agile methodologies and CI/CD for data pipelines.
Familiarity with Python, dbt, or other modern data engineering tools.
