Summary

Role: Oracle Developer

Location: On Site to Start, Transition to Hybrid - Huntsville, TX

Duration: Twelve-Month Contract

Team & Environment
- Organization has an application development team using Oracle APEX and PHP.
- Training has been initiated for APEX adoption.
- Current bottleneck is the database layer, with only one DBA supporting storage, packages, and DB needs.
Role Need
- Looking for a mid-level resource to act as a liaison between app developers and the DBA.
- This person will contribute to development (APEX/PLSQL) while also supporting DBA-related tasks.
- Focus on hands-on development, not purely database administration.
Required Skills (Non-Negotiable)
- Strong PL/SQL experience
- Ability to build functions, stored procedures, and packages
- Working knowledge of Oracle APEX
- Must demonstrate practical ability (prior candidates struggled despite claims)
Candidate Profile
- Avoid overly senior (20–30 years) candidates due to cost.
- Prefer someone who can problem-solve.
- Must be U.S.-based Visa and pass a background check.
- Preference for local/on-site presence, will look at candidates who need to travel in 1-2x/month.
- Open to trading hours for experience if needed.
Interview Process
- Typically one interview round.
- Second round only if needed (tie-breaker or soft skills validation).
- Includes a practical PL/SQL or pseudocode task walkthrough.
Timeline & Logistics
- Hiring goal: FTE, but starting as a contractor.
- Team unavailable early July; target start date of late July / early August.
- Interviews can begin next week.
- Currently working with two vendors, no active candidates yet.
Key Challenges
- Finding candidates who can actually demonstrate PL/SQL and APEX development skills, not just DB querying experience.
  - Also need to work in DBA capacity, creating functions, stores procedures, packages
- Balancing budget constraints with required experience level.
