Sr. CAD Technician (Hybrid)
Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is looking for a Sr. CAD Technician for their Vancouver, Washington location. This position will support and work closely with electrical engineers, electrical engineer technicians and other CAD staff in the Engineering organization within the Transmission Services business line. This position will also actively work with other internal engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities for Sr. CAD Technician:
- Utilize MicroStation CAD software and equipment to prepare project designs, sketches, final working drawings and contract documents related to construction design packages.
- Perform sub-system user file management within CAD systems, such as plotting, printing, record maintenance, storage, and retrieving and returning drawings from ProjectWise.
- Examine electronic schematics and supporting documents to develop, compute, and verify specifications for drafting data, such as configuration of parts, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Review CAD, rough/preliminary sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from engineers, to verify that they conform to design concepts.
- Work with Engineers to develop / draft Western Electric Coordination Council (WECC) reports and presentations for RCR approval.
- Produce electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Produce RAS Logic diagrams.
- Produce physical substation layout drawings.
- Prepare Bills of Materials using preformatted Word documents and established procedures.
- Prepare Material Requisitions (MRs) per established procedures and criteria for project-specific equipment requirements.
- Prepare installation diagrams, rack modifications, and design drawings, including standard Logic diagram details.
- Review contractual Electrical, RAS, and other engineering discipline’s working drawings at various stages of completion for adherence and compliance with CAD standards.
- Provide routine and ad hoc status updates on CAD work including a summary of activity and project progress as requested.
- Search for CAD files in ProjectWise database and other filing resources.
- Review, distribute, and file submittals, shop drawings, material data, and samples.
- In preparation of the final working drawings, assist the Engineering Technician with coordination of construction document preparation for signing by authorizing party.
- Maintain a thorough familiarity with CAD and design standards.
- Provide control center drawing support for the RAS design packages.
- Work will include:
- Provide quality design, layout, and production of engineering, civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, electronic, and/or fiber optic drawings as needed.
- Perform necessary research using existing facility, standards, plan & profile, hardware, civil, and survey drawings.
- Assist in pre-engineering research to control product reliability and accuracy for engineering, technical, and commercial applications.
- Consult with engineering staff and other personnel to discuss and interpret design concepts, identify requirements of detailed working drawings, and resolve problems.
- Review rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from engineers to ensure that they conform to design concepts.
- Draft plans and detailed drawings for racks, installations, and construction projects, working drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics based on preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets, and other data.
- Locate files relating to specified design project in database library, load program into computer, and record completed job data. Specific Tasks may include:
- Perform duties essential to the preparation of engineering design drawings for Civil, Line Design, Substation Design, Telecommunication Design, Fiber Optic Design, including details, assemblies, installations, minor layouts, and parts lists.
Requirements/Qualifications for Sr. CAD Technician:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in computer aided design or a closely related field is preferred.
- 7 years of CAD Drafting experience is required.
- 5 years of experience in the electrical field or substation design.
- Expert proficiency in the use of MicroStation CAD software.
- Familiarity with technical CAD drafting methods related to Electrical systems.
- Knowledge of Electrical design techniques involved in production of technical equipment designs.
- Experience with Microsoft software including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
- Requires attention to detail and being thorough in completing work tasks.
