Summary

Duration: 12+ Months

Location: IA-Des Moines, Hybrid 3-4 days onsite

Overview: Every consultant belongs to a practice, an internal group of consultants and leaders with shared experience and expertise. Each of these practices aligns to one of the core services the company offers to clients. As a Back End Engineer, you will join the Digital Modernization practice, where technology and strategy combine to deliver exceptional digital experiences, empowering organizations to thrive in today's digital market.

Responsibilities:

Legacy-to-Cloud Translation

Interpret complex technical documentation of legacy mainframe systems to identify integration touchpoints and determine the downstream impacts of cloud migration

Technical Advisory

Evaluate and recommend optimal technical paths for modernizing integrations within the existing ecosystem, ensuring minimal disruption to active claims processing

Architectural Alignment

Collaborate closely with Enterprise Architects to ensure all solution designs strictly adhere to both the target-state cloud architecture and necessary "transitional-state" patterns

Data Pipeline Engineering

Design and optimize back-end data flows using cloud-native services, focusing on performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency

Collaborative Design

Participate in creative problem-solving sessions to bridge the gap between legacy data structures and modern cloud-native data environments

Agile Participation

Operate as an embedded member of the Health Plan Administration technical team, contributing to sprint cycles, daily stand-ups, and PI planning within a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environment

Technical Communication

Distill complex technical concepts into actionable insights for stakeholders to assist in the prioritization of backlog requirements and deadlines

Qualifications:

Technical Proficiency

Strong experience with back-end development and data orchestration

While the primary stack is AWS (Glue, S3, Lambda, Node.js), equivalent experience in other major cloud providers (Azure/Google Cloud Platform) will be considered

Modernization Experience

Familiar in working on large-scale migrations, specifically moving workloads or integrations from legacy/mainframe environments to the cloud

Data Flow Optimization

Strong understanding of how to manage and optimize high-volume data as it flows through serverless and microservices architectures

Process Expertise

Experience operating within a SAFe or Agile environment, with a clear understanding of how to manage changing priorities and shifting deadlines

Soft Skills

Exceptional communication skills with the ability to advocate for specific technical designs while remaining flexible to business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience within the Health Insurance/Health Plan industry or claims processing domains

Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines in a cloud-native context

A "consultative" mindset-the ability to act as a subject matter expert who can influence design decisions
