We are hiring an IT Trainer Specialist to start immediately for a Law Firm in Los Angeles, CA.
- This is a 100% on site position, but after 90 days, you may work one day a week remote
- This is a direct hire position, up to 135k/year with merit based bonuses at the end of every year
- This is a nonexempt position, 7.5 hours a day, you will be eligible for OT but typically hours will be 8 to 4 PM or 8:30 to 4 PM Monday to Friday
- This is not an IT support role, you will be doing software training to the end users. For example, when the Attorney/Legal Assistants/Paralegal have a need on the training side of things, and how to use for example outlining a document in word, or they forget how to use image or their macros, or they need a re on excel, word, best authority, or other software program they use, you will be that person for that.
- We need someone with 3+ years of IT training experience, and this person must have law firm experience
The IT Training Specialist is responsible for supporting the firm's technology and training initiatives in collaboration with firm leadership and external technology vendors. General responsibilities include developing, implementing and delivering training programs for all attorneys and staff; preparing written and electronic training materials; assisting with firm website updates; supporting the evaluation and testing of emerging legal technologies, including AI tools; and helping the firm remain current with advancements in legal technology and innovation.
This position conducts instructor-led training for new hires; delivers applications training via classroom, e-learning, video-based instruction, and remote (virtual) platforms; designs and develops instructor-led, virtual, recorded, and AI-enhanced learning content; and explores innovative delivery methods including short-form video, interactive demonstrations, and emerging technologies to enhance user engagement and retention.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Implements training programs for all attorneys and staff and prepares written and electronic training materials to supplement classroom instruction.
- Conducts all training-instructor-led, virtual, and pre-recorded-in a clear and organized manner, in a voice that is audible and a fashion that clearly and effectively conveys the information being presented.
- Delivers applications training via classroom, e-learning and remote (virtual) platforms.
- Schedules and implements training programs that are comprehensive, well-prepared and educationally sound.
- Anticipates and identifies evolving firm technology training needs, collaborates with managers to design effective programs, and makes thoughtful recommendations to firm management regarding training initiatives, tools, and long-term development strategies.
- Demonstrates creativity in developing engaging educational experiences, leveraging multimedia, AI tools, and innovative instructional formats to support diverse learning styles.
- Designs, develops, writes and maintains effective reference materials for training, clearly written, and in accordance with team documentation standards.
- Designs, scripts, storyboards, and develops e-learning modules to demonstrate technology use.
- Spearheads the design and implementation of a Learning Management System and manages its ongoing administration in collaboration with firm management.
- Develops, updates, and provides orientation training on current Windows, Microsoft Office and other firm-related software, in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
- Leads the design, implementation, training, and ongoing management of the firm's Intranet, including updating content, ensuring accuracy and organization, developing user guides and training sessions, and driving enhancements to improve functionality and engagement firmwide.
- Develops technology test plans and performs technology testing, on an as needed basis, with the guidance and support of Firm leadership and department managers and directors.
- Assists with evaluating, testing, and supporting the deployment of emerging legal technologies, including AI-driven tools such as Microsoft Copilot, CoCounsel, and other productivity platforms.
- Supports implementation and user adoption of new software systems, including ERP platforms such as Aderant, through training, documentation, and rollout coordination.
- Monitors trends in legal technology, training trends and advancements, including participation in industry organizations such as ILTA (or similar organizations), collaborates with Firm leadership and external vendors to enhance training initiatives and technology utilization.
- Provides technical support firm-wide as needed such as assistance with posting content on firm website and eblasts for firm newsletters. This also includes Help Desk support for all application support needs and requests; provides support of standard end user applications and/or software general computer issues.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A firm understanding of software instruction and technical writing is required. Bachelor's degree and a minimum three years' experience in software training position in a law firm environment in a similarly sized, multi-office legal services organization is preferred. Classroom training experience is required.
Exceptional skills are required in communicating complex technical concepts in a manner readily understood by non-technical users, both orally and literally. High attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Maintain applicable proficiency in all Firm standard software. These include, but are not limited to: Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook, iManage DeskSite and FileSite, legal macro systems (CCC, iCreate, MacPac, etc.) Adobe Acrobat Professional, software for redlining (CompareDocs, DeltaView) Best Authority, legal forms generating products (West Doc Builder) Compulaw and VisionSync, and metadata software such as CleanDocs.
Strong understanding of Microsoft or computer field principles and standards. Familiar with the litigation efiling process as required by California courts a plus. Ability to multi-task and prioritize workloads. Ability to present ideas in a clear, business-friendly and user-friendly language.
Advanced knowledge of Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook is also required. Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills. Must possess discretion in working with confidential data, strong proofreading skills, etc. Experience with other technology, such as VoIP phone systems, is highly preferred. Familiarity with ERP systems such as Aderant is preferred but not required. Exposure to AI-powered legal tools and productivity platforms is highly desirable. Experience with graphic design or content creation tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Snagit, or similar platforms is a plus. An interest in emerging legal technology trends and the ability to support vendor coordination and user adoption initiatives is strongly valued.
