Design Execution Project Manager

Apex Systems Job Opening

Location: Must be onsite in Muncie, IN 2 days per week
Position Overview

Apex Systems is seeking a Design Execution Project Manager to manage the design process for a large-scale data center program, from campus planning and basis-of-design development through the issuance of construction drawings. The role will build and coordinate matrixed design teams, establish shared execution plans, and oversee construction-administration services delivered by external design partners in support of construction activities.

The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of building construction and/or design, along with excellent communication, stakeholder-management, and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities

Facilitate planning sessions, kickoff workshops, design reviews, and large-scale workshops with internal and external stakeholders.

Create scopes of work for contracts and secure stakeholder alignment.

Issue and administer design-related contracts.

Define, coordinate, and track deliverables across multiple parties.

Monitor project cost, schedule, progress, and scope, and provide clear project-health reporting.

Build effective design teams by coordinating matrixed internal stakeholders and strategically engaging external partners.

Manage changes to project scope and design contracts.

Facilitate technical decisions aligned with project requirements.

Coordinate design activities with procurement and construction teams.

Maintain clear, transparent communication across internal stakeholders and external partners.

Ensure engineering information is issued to the appropriate parties at the right time and in the required format.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field.

7+ years of experience in design and/or construction project management.

Strong understanding of construction principles and practices.

Experience managing and coordinating across multiple teams.

Experience preparing project plans and specifications.

Experience drafting scopes of work.

Knowledge of applicable government regulations.

Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications

Professional licensure such as PE, NCARB, or RA. Significant professional experience of 15+ years may be considered in place of licensure.

Prior experience supporting data center design and/or construction.

Experience with complex, mission-critical, or technically intensive facilities such as hospitals, high-rise commercial buildings, laboratories, semiconductor or advanced manufacturing facilities, power plants, or other high-power environments.
