SOC Analyst

Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities

• Staff the SOC as part of a 24x7x365 threat management operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

• Interface with internal OTI Cyber Command teams, City agencies, vendors, and information‐sharing partners.

• Monitor networks and security alerts for intrusions, compromises, and anomalies; apply mitigation measures or escalate as required.

• Correlate threat intelligence across logs and established security controls.

• Produce routine SOC metrics and reporting.

• Maintain Situation Reports (SITREPs).

• Perform weekly quality control checks.

• Collaborate with the SOC Director to update and develop SOC playbooks and runbooks.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

Candidates must meet all requirements below to be considered:

• Minimum 8 years of experience in Threat Management, SOC operations, and/or Incident Response.

• Demonstrated leadership ability including mentoring junior analysts and coordinating team activities.

• Prior hands-on experience working in a SOC environment.

• Deep understanding of SOC procedures and tools including:

  • SIEM platforms

  • IDS/IPS

  • EDR solutions

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, practices, and procedures.

• Solid understanding of network and host technologies.

• Experience detecting host/network intrusions using IDS methodologies.

• Proficiency with SIEM platforms, malware analysis, and mitigation.

• Ability to apply cybersecurity and privacy principles (CIA triad, authentication, non-repudiation).

• Ability to interpret diagnostic network tool data (Netflow, logs, IDS systems).

• Strong problem-solving and investigative skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting incidents and engaging stakeholders.

• Threat hunting experience to proactively identify anomalies before they escalate.

• Experience leading or contributing to incident response activities—analysis, containment, mitigation, and recovery.
