Summary

Hi,

Title: Product Manager with substantial retirement industry experience
Location: REMOTE
Duration: 12+ Months contract

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a senior-level, technically oriented Product Owner or Product Manager with substantial retirement industry experience who excels at coordinating requirements across complex enterprise technology environments.

This individual should be capable of maintaining a holistic understanding of retirement platforms, identifying cross-team dependencies, and ensuring retirement business needs are accurately translated into actionable development work.

Unlike a traditional Product Owner responsible for defining a new product strategy, this position focuses primarily on requirements leadership, stakeholder alignment, integration coordination, and execution against an established roadmap.

Candidates with experience at major retirement services organizations, particularly Fidelity Investments or similar companies, are especially attractive.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Owner / Technical Product Manager to lead cross-functional requirements gathering and coordination for a large-scale digital integration initiative within the retirement services industry.

This individual will serve as a critical liaison between retirement services stakeholders, enterprise product teams, and engineering organizations to ensure retirement-related capabilities are effectively integrated into a broader customer-facing digital platform.

The ideal candidate will bring deep retirement industry knowledge, strong technical product management capabilities, and extensive experience coordinating requirements across multiple business and technology teams. This role requires someone who can navigate complex organizational structures, understand interconnected systems, and translate business needs into actionable requirements for development teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional requirements gathering, analysis, refinement, and prioritization for retirement-related digital capabilities.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between retirement services stakeholders, Retail Product Owners, and engineering teams to ensure retirement business requirements are accurately represented.
  • Maintain a comprehensive, end-to-end understanding of the retirement services technology landscape, including applications, integrations, shared services, and dependencies.
  • Translate complex retirement business requirements into clear functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and actionable development priorities.
  • Partner with multiple Product Owners and development teams to ensure retirement-related functionality is incorporated into broader enterprise digital initiatives.
  • Coordinate requirements for shared digital capabilities such as account information, position history, statements, and other customer-facing functionality.
  • Identify and manage dependencies between dedicated retirement technology teams and shared enterprise engineering resources.
  • Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to resolve conflicting priorities, clarify requirements, and address integration challenges.
  • Ensure alignment between retirement services business needs and established enterprise product roadmaps and technology strategies.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between legacy business units, technology organizations, and newly integrated teams.
  • Support Agile delivery processes, including backlog refinement, requirements validation, sprint planning, and release coordination.
  • Identify potential gaps in functionality, requirements, or system integrations and work proactively with stakeholders to resolve them.
  • Provide visibility into requirements readiness, delivery dependencies, risks, and progress across multiple teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience within the retirement services industry, including retirement plans, retirement products, or retirement technology platforms.
  • Strong background as a Technical Product Manager, Product Owner, Technical Business Analyst, or similar cross-functional technology leader.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex requirements gathering and refinement across multiple business units and engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of retirement plan functionality, participant experiences, and the broader retirement services ecosystem.
  • Experience translating complex business requirements into technical deliverables for software development teams.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional dependencies and coordinate work across multiple Product Owners, engineering teams, and business stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting enterprise digital platforms, customer-facing websites, or large-scale technology integration initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies, product backlog management, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to understand technical architectures, system integrations, and dependencies without necessarily serving as a hands-on developer.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working within complex enterprise environments involving multiple technology teams and competing business priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with large financial services or retirement services organizations such as Fidelity Investments, Charles Schwab, Vanguard, Empower, or similar institutions.
  • Experience supporting retirement plan participant websites, retirement account functionality, or digital retirement services platforms.
  • Familiarity with retirement recordkeeping platforms, although direct recordkeeping experience is not required.
  • Experience coordinating shared technology capabilities across multiple product lines or business units.
  • Background supporting enterprise integrations, platform consolidation, or organizational technology transformations.
  • Experience working with Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence, or similar Agile delivery and requirements management tools.
  • Familiarity with defined contribution retirement plans, including 401(k) and 403(b) products.
