SAP MDM Functional Solution Architect with Manufacturing Expertise
Location : Edison, NJ ( onsite )
Role Overview
The MDM Solution Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and governing enterprise-wide Master Data Management solutions, with a strong focus on manufacturing data domains such as materials, products, suppliers, plants, and bills of materials (BOM). This role ensures high-quality, consistent, and governed master data across ERP, PLM, MES, and supply chain systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Solution Architecture & Design
- Define end-to-end MDM architecture aligned with business and IT strategy
- Design data models for key manufacturing domains:
o Material Master
o Product / SKU hierarchy
o Vendor / Supplier Master
o BOM & Routing
o Plant / Location data
- Select and implement MDM tools (e.g., SAP Master Data Governance, Informatica MDM, Reltio)
2. Data Governance & Quality
- Establish data governance frameworks, policies, and standards
- Define data ownership, stewardship, and workflows
- Implement data quality rules, validation, and monitoring
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and audit requirements
3. Manufacturing Domain Expertise
- Understand manufacturing processes (discrete/process manufacturing)
- Align MDM solutions with:
o ERP systems like SAP S/4HANA or Oracle ERP Cloud
o PLM systems (product lifecycle management)
o MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems)
- Handle complexities like:
o Multi-plant data harmonization
o Global vs local material definitions
o Engineering-to-manufacturing data alignment
4. Integration & Data Architecture
- Design integrations between MDM and enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, SCM, Data Lakes)
- Define APIs, ETL processes, and data synchronization strategies
- Work with middleware and integration platforms
5. Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work with business teams (supply chain, procurement, production, engineering)
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Lead workshops, data governance councils, and design sessions
6. Implementation & Delivery
- Lead MDM implementation projects end-to-end
- Define roadmaps, timelines, and deliverables
- Ensure scalability, performance, and security of MDM solutions
7. Data Migration & Transformation
- Define data migration strategies from legacy systems
- Cleanse, standardize, and enrich master data
- Support ERP transformation programs (e.g., SAP S/4HANA migrations)
Technical Skills
- Strong experience with MDM platforms (SAP MDG, Informatica, Reltio, etc.)
- Expertise in data modeling, data architecture, and integration
- Knowledge of SQL, ETL tools, APIs, and cloud platforms
- Familiarity with data governance tools and frameworks
Domain Expertise
- 8 15+ years of experience in manufacturing or supply chain
- Deep understanding of:
o Material master data structures
o BOM, routing, and production planning
o Supplier and procurement data
- Experience with ERP systems like SAP or Oracle
Soft Skills
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams
- Problem-solving and strategic thinking
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in global manufacturing environments
- Knowledge of Industry 4.0 and digital manufacturing concepts
- Certifications in MDM tools or ERP platforms
- Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
