2053 Environmental Manager

Position Summary

The Environmental Manager is responsible for managing, implementing, and maintaining the facility’s environmental programs and regulatory compliance initiatives.  This position serves as the facility’s primary resource for environmental compliance, including waste management, wastewater, stormwater, spill prevention, chemical management, environmental testing, and regulatory reporting.

The Environmental Manager works closely with the EHS Manager, plant leadership, supervisors, employees, and regulatory agencies to maintain compliance with applicable environmental requirements and drive continuous improvement of the facility’s environmental programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain facility environmental programs, policies, procedures, and compliance initiatives.
  • Conduct routine environmental compliance inspections and identify potential risks, deficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage compliance activities related to waste management, wastewater, stormwater, spill prevention, chemical management, hazard communication, and chemical labeling.
  • Monitor employee and subcontractor adherence to company environmental policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate environmental activities associated with facility emergency response programs.
  • Develop and conduct environmental compliance training for supervisors and employees.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance activities across departments and provide guidance regarding regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Manage required environmental testing, documentation, recordkeeping, and reporting.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to applicable local, state/provincial, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Support permit applications, renewals, and other environmental regulatory documentation as required.
  • Inspect and evaluate equipment, processes, work areas, and operating practices to identify environmental risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate environmental inspections, investigations, corrective actions, and compliance activities with appropriate departments.
  • Assist with regulatory inspections and environmental audits and ensure appropriate follow-up and corrective actions.
  • Provide environmental guidance and recommendations to plant leadership, supervisors, and employees.
  • Develop and improve environmental tracking, documentation, and reporting processes.
  • Support the continuous improvement of the facility’s Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Research environmental regulations, industry trends, technologies, and best practices and recommend appropriate changes to facility programs.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional environmental and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide direction, coaching, and technical guidance to less-experienced environmental personnel as applicable.
  • Maintain current knowledge of environmental regulations and emerging compliance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of environmental management or environmental compliance experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Current wastewater and stormwater certifications.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting, compliance, documentation, and regulatory reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with environmental programs involving wastewater, stormwater, waste management, spill prevention, chemical management, and hazard communication.
  • Experience conducting environmental inspections, compliance reviews, and investigations.
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and supporting environmental audits or inspections.
  • Previous experience providing leadership, direction, or technical guidance to others.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently manage environmental priorities and make sound technical decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database/administrative systems.
  • Highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
