This position is based out of Eau Claire, WI with coverage also to Chippewa, WI and Neillsville, WI.

Job Summary

Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Responsible for providing leadership during the day-to-day operations of the laboratory or laboratory department. Acts as a point of contact to technical staff, responds to questions and provides direction. Responsible for providing administrative leadership and expertise to the laboratory department. May collect laboratory specimens. May process lab specimens and perform clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. Demonstrate skill in use of equipment relevant to position. Demonstrate critical and independent judgement in decision-making and problem-solving. Demonstrate personal commitment to the principles, values, and ethics of the organization to promote a positive work environment. Seek personal learning opportunities. Recognize safety hazards and comply with all safety practices and protocols. May assist in the training and competency assessment of staff. Serve as a laboratory resource to other healthcare personnel and collaborate with other departments across the enterprise. Manage validations, proficiency testing and evaluation and quality assurance initiatives. Will effectively interview, hire, counsel, discipline, and when needed, terminate employees. Develop and monitor appropriate indicators for quality and continuous improvement. Manage the operations of the departments including human resources, budget and finance, short and long range planning, legal and regulatory compliance. Responsible for providing professional and technical expertise. Responsible for implementing the vision and mission, plan and standards of the organization within the departments. Accountable for the laboratory environment. Expected to contribute to the strategic planning process, day-to-day operations and attainment of goals of the organization. Maintain a positive work environment for the laboratory staff and develop a team approach to optimize work flow, improve customer satisfaction and reduce errors. Responsible for providing leadership in the day to day operations of the laboratory. Work closely and collaborate with the department medical director/section director and other department leadership to oversee areas of responsibility. May have fiscal responsibility for areas of accountability.

This position may require acting as a CLIA role of Qualified Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor and Technical Consultant as needed. Must also qualify to perform duties delegated by the CLIA Laboratory Director. May be required to travel to other enterprise locations. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required.

Five years laboratory related experience required. Must have at least two years of leadership/management experience.

Possess a national laboratory certification or laboratory specialty certification through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
