Location/Division

The Materials and Structural Analysis Electron Microscopy (M&SA EM) business enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries and ultimately change the world. The M&SA EM business designs, manufactures, and supports the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales.

How will you make an impact?

The Field Service Engineer III for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific performs on-site installation, alignment and repair of sophisticated equipment and systems. Engineers validate operational quality of system equipment; advise customers in the operation and maintenance of the system; serve as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects; and conduct on-site installations of analytical instruments serving the electronics research and manufacturing industries.

The Field Service Engineer III will join a diverse team with skills ranging from sophisticated computer networks, precision mechanics, high voltage electronics, vacuum theory, particle beams, optics, and chemistry.

What you will do:
  • Conduct on-site installations across the region
  • Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits per commitments and schedule
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnel
  • Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with users and colleagues
  • Complete technical training, as required
  • Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems
  • Advise external customers, manufacturing and internal customers thru effective communication
  • Partner with colleagues as mentee and mentor to continue personal and team development
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for Service, documentation, and product factories
  • Collaborate with application scientists, technical support engineers, and customers to resolve complex customer challenges

Minimum Education & Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of technical education and experience on sophisticated systems, or equivalent military experience
  • 1+ years' experience using SEM, TEM, FIB, Circuit Analysis, or similar systems
  • Ability to partner effectively with customers
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; must have a professional working proficiency in English
  • High level of proficiency on Windows software, network knowledge, current computer hardware
  • Must have ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to secure entrance to US Government laboratories and facilities, if required
